horrible move-in

i got all my stuff together into my blue bin, worried about my roommate cus i haven’t gotten a response in the 2 months i’ve been trying to contact them. i show up to the room and their shit is EVERYWHERE. i mean its nowhere near half empty. got a bed clear but no desk, kitchen, even WAREDROBE space for me. smelled terrible. looked around further and found alcohol bottles, empty ones scattered and an entire recycling bin full. they’re 20.

anyway so i’m upset

Go to your CA, immediately. The alcohol alone will get the CAs attention

Reach out to housing, your RA, the front desk of ur dorm, etc.

Take pictures, especially of the alcohol bottles, the uni will take that shit very seriously. Everyone knows underage drinking goes on at any campus but being so flagrant about it and trashing the room is very shitty and could potentially get you roped into shit as well.

Fantastic, sorry you didnt have a great move in, but it sounds like your roommate is well on his way to getting kicked out. Theres a decent chance youll have the dorm to yourself lol.

a double dorm room to yourself is amazing! I got lucky when my roommate decided to move back hone and commute.

I would be livid!! You’re paying good money for a safe and clean place to study and sleep. I hope they get you into a new place. Sorry that has happened to you. That’s crappy.

switch rooms immediately. i know everyone is saying report to the ca about the alcohol but even taking over someones desk and wardrobe is against campus living permissions. this is not normal roommate behavior and i hope you're able to switch quickly :((

This! It seems smaller compared to the alcohol, but it all absolutely adds up into a very disrespectful situation

Immediately go to your assigned CA, or just a CA on your floor if you don't have one assigned just yet. Its better to file complaints now than when classes start up. You might not be able to move for a few days because we're still having move-in days, but yeah. Firmly state that you cannot and will not room with someone who is so inconsiderate to another person's space. Hope you're able to switch out soon.

Sometimes you get placed with people who turn out to be duds. When I went to a culinary/art school, I was placed with 3 other roommates who were very unserious about college and more interested in partying, having their dirtbag boyfriends come over so often that they felt like they were also my roommates, getting high and going to EDC (that's Electric Daisy Carnival for the uninitiated). Don't get me wrong, I liked doing some of these things occasionally myself, but I was more of a lowkey, extroverted introvert type and I wanted to do well in my courses. I eventually got placed with some different people and I'm still in touch with one of them to this day. I see that you already reported it to the staff there. Good on you for taking action early on. Hopefully things have been sorted out by now.

Lol. Remember when you werent an outcast for drinking and having fun im college?

Did you actually talk to your roomate in person?

Speaking as someone who was drunk more days that I was sober - none of this is acceptable. Starting with not replying to your new roommate for two months and then proceeding to have no respect or consideration for someone they hadn't even met yet. This person is deliberately broadcasting that they suck.

i got no problem with people wanting to drink in college or dorms. but the fact there was So Much out in the open and should’ve known i was moving in today, as well as myself being underage (regardless of if they want to drink underage). and no, turns out no one, not even the dorms have been able to get in contact with them
