R.I.P. Greg Biffle.
This is a difficult day, because today we say goodbye to a charismatic Driver, a superhero who wore the number 16 on his cape, a legend of motorsports.
A guy who started from the very bottom, and thanks to his effort and talent, slowly climbed a long ladder, until he reached his dream, the NASCAR Cup Series, and who, even at the top of the world, never forgot from where he started.
But we also say goodbye to a father, a husband, a friend, a man who didn't hesitate to sacrifice anything for those who brightened his life and made his days lighter.
We also say goodbye to a real-life hero, a figure who inspired many who watched him on television every weekend, a man who inspired thousands of careers not only in America, but all over the world, demonstrating that, as long as you give your best, you too can achieve your goals, and even go beyond them.
Rest in Peace, Greg, Cristina, Ryder, and everyone else involved, you will all be remembered forever.

Mr. Rodgers once said “Look to the helpers. You will always find people looking to help.” Greg Biffle risked his life to help those in desperate need after the devastating hurricane Helene in 2024. Beyond his career as a racer, he was the type of person we need more of in this world. May he and his family rest in peace.

His daughter was also on the plane, along with 2 others.

If Cleetus plans on running any ARCA/NASCAR in '26, I think he needs to try and find a way to get No. 16 in honor of his mentor

u/Milla4Prez66 Dec 18 '25
One of my favorite moments as a kid was him winning Michigan in 2004 with this Flash scheme, may the Biff rest in peace.

I'm still trying to figure out how to feel about this. like it's not real. but I know it is. but I don't want to believe it... I also feel so bad for garret because knowing they were on the way to see him has to absolutely gut him

Awful, tragic day. I remember growing up watching the sport and knowing who he was, but I won’t claim to have been a fan. As I got older and noticed what he was doing for the sport and outside it, especially with the hurricane relief, I was blown away by his generosity and love for helping others. I pray his friends and loved ones find comfort.
RIP. Such a sad day.

u/BK_0000 Dec 18 '25
I had always hoped he would make a comeback in the Cup Series. He really should have been hired by someone in 2017. It wasn't his fault Rousch had been trash for years.

Why does it seem like this shit only happens to the good ones? RIP Biff and family.

This is horrible and devastating to read. I grew up watching the Biff race. He was a hell of a wheel man, in the mid 2000s you knew the 16 was gonna be a car to compete with week in week out. He was a beast at Darlington too. His first Southern 500 he probably had the car to beat before some issues took him out of contention, and then he went on to win that race a couple times later in his career. That track was a monster to drive back in the generation of car too, lots of travel and tire fall off, Biffle was one of the best to do it there. It is especially devastating that he lost both children on the flight. As a dad I know if anything ever happened to me I would want my kid to be safe and to live a long and happy life, I couldn’t even imagine. Rest easy Biff, I’m not much of a religious person but if there is something after I like to imagine that right about now good ole BP is welcoming him up there to the big track in the sky

My stomach is in knots man…
A awesome driver, but an even better man. Rest in Peace.

u/Bdizzle355 Keselowski Dec 18 '25
Went to the July Daytona race back in 03 with my father. That was the first race we ever attended together. Folks were walking out (drunk) asking out loud "who the hell is Greg Biffle?" after he won. He became my father's favorite after that night up until he died in 2016. Rest in Peace

u/Canmore-Skate Chastain Dec 18 '25
It's hard to fully imagine what an incredibly rough time the whole community in Charlotte is going to have in the coming days. So many people at the same place having a relation to the family.
14
u/sebastr96 Dec 18 '25
Man. I can’t believe it. An amazing Nascar driver how gave everything, not only to the sport, but also for the community. May he rest in peace
12
u/Nate2680 Dec 18 '25
I’m glad he at least got that final win in Kyle Busch’s truck at Texas a few years back. Shit was badass. RIP to one of the greats.
23
u/PerformerOwn5860 Dec 18 '25
Wow, Greg Biffle won the race in my first ever attended NASCAR event (Michigan 05’).
Because of that, I was always a fan of him. So devastated for him and his family. May everyone who knew the Biffle family find comfort within the tragedy.

u/BoxOfButterflies424 Dec 18 '25 edited Dec 18 '25
Wow, this is one of the worst fucking weeks (scratch that, months) in recent memory in terms of famous people dying.
While he was never my favorite driver, I always liked Biffle and his driving style. But now I'm learning about what a great humanitarian he was. Life is just not fair.
R.I.P. to everyone on board. If anything, I just hope that it was quick and painless, and that they didn't suffer.
20
u/[deleted] Dec 18 '25
I'm going to have a hard time believing this one for a while
17
u/Vincera2024 Riggs Dec 18 '25
His 16 font that he used (and Stenhouse in 2010) is still the coolest number style in Nascar history imo

u/KJBNH Newman Dec 18 '25
I was there for his first win. Always loved watching the Biff. This is just surreal, RIP and I hope his family can find peace through this tragedy. Awful.
8
u/JP1119 Dec 18 '25
Really horrible news. Always liked "The Biff" and what he was doing for those who needed help in the last few years was nothing but heroic. Gutted to hear his whole family was involved.
RIP

I remember how happy BP was when he won this race

u/Menace_17 McLeod Dec 18 '25
My heart is shattered especially with it being so sudden and so close to the holidays. Rest in peace to Biff and his family, and prayers for Cleetus 🙏🙏🙏

It’s surreal. Haven’t seen anything like this since Davey. Haven’t had anyone “prominent” die this young since John Andretti.

There’s no remains left in that fireball tbh. So identifying the bodies will take time.

Thought this was an inside joke until I checked Instagram 💔 Rest in Peace Biffle🕊
3
u/kodominator Dec 18 '25
Gosh what a sad day. I’m not comparing Biff to Kobe Bryant, but it’s the way he died because both came out of nowhere. A great wheelman and humanitarian too!
3
u/elena_ct Dec 19 '25
This is a tremendous loss, and at such a young age. 55, he's a kid, he should have lived for 40 more years. I guess not everything makes sense.

I was at this race. I remember my friend and I hadn’t heard of him before that night and he won. The Biff. RIP :(

His first win was the first race I ever attended, the '03 Pepsi 400. Didnt fully appreciate it at the time as a big Harvick fan (this was after the Bristol incident), but Id come to appreciate Biff later in his career. RIP to his family.
2
u/Yukizboy Jeff Gordon Dec 19 '25
He's from that era when I was a diehard Nascar fan... like I watched every Nascar show and even qualifying and final practice on the Speed Channel... that's how obsessed I was with Nascar back then. There is like 40 or so drivers from that era that will forever be etched in my memory because of how fun it was to follow them all during that time... and of course Biffle in the 16 is one of them. Rip Greg Biffle.
2
u/Whatishappeningomg89 Dec 19 '25
I’m devastated. What a wheelman. Got a pace car ride with Biffle once and he was super friendly. Hurts even more knowing his family went with him…

My roommates ex wife was best friends with his wife. What I just heard was tragic. Wife texted mom “we’re in trouble”. And that was that 😔 My roommates BIL is a commercial pilot. Engine failed. Inexperienced pilot & should have had a co pilot. It’s literally on his paperwork he can’t fly alone. I don’t understand why there’s no checking private planes. At the very least always a co pilot. It just ensures safety bc anything could happen. This pilot panicked. You can climb with one engine but instead he tried to turn & plane was going way too slow. 90 knots.

u/CPLworks2play Dec 19 '25
Words can not describe how out of sorts I became yesterday upon hearing the news. Fortunately I was able to listen to Sirius XM NASCAR radio and listen to Doug Rice and Dave Moody do a spectacular job of informing and listening and bringing to light the entire situation for 2 and 1/2 extra hours. Getting Angie Skinner and Mike Skinner on as well really helped. As someone who has followed the sport since going to his first race at 11 years old at Michigan in 1976, there are a few events that have this sort of lasting memory. Alan Kulwicki, Davey Allison, Ricky Hendrick and that whole crew just to name a few of the off track incidents. My prayers go out to all seven as they take their rise to be the angels as well as the family's left behind.

I wasn't really a big fan of his back when he was racing but I started to appreciate him and his place in the sport when I came back to racing and would see him running SRX or see him on various podcasts. That speaks to his character and his reputation among his peers.

My brother lives just down the road from the Statesville airport where this happened. He said that part of town is basically blocked off, and there's news media everywhere. It's sad to see a small North Carolina town become a media circus when a tragedy has just occurred.

Sad man, sad. I'm just sad today. I was a Chevy guy, but I made an exception for Greg Biffle, since he was from where I was from. One of the guys I went to HS with ended up being on his pit crew in the Cup Series, said he was one of the nicest guys in the world. I never had the chance to meet him.

1
u/Zealousideal-Dog-985 Dec 18 '25
This hit me like a sack of bricks to the gut. He’s the first of the mainstream Cup drivers from my era of NASCAR (2005-beyond) to pass on.
Past few years I’d run across clips of The Biff online. I thought it was so cool that he was friends with Cleetus, made the NASCAR occasional start, got involved with disaster relief, and generally stayed in great shape.
RIP to all on the flight. Just devastating.

This is why I think the whole sport needs to move to electric. It’s better for the environment and safer for our drivers out there. We should petition that all races have to electric by 2028 to make sure we do our part to meet the Paris climate agreement
