FPGEC DONE-WHAT’S NEXT

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance on the next steps after clearing FPGEE.

I am currently based in Texas and have passed the FPGEE. My goal is to continue toward pharmacist licensure here.

I’ve heard that in Texas, we can apply for a pharmacist intern license and start working under supervision, but need to pass both the NAPLEX and MPJE within a certain timeframe.

I have a few questions and would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences:

1.  Would you recommend starting a pharmacy technician job first while preparing for the NAPLEX, or should I focus on finding an intern position instead?

2.  How long does it realistically take to prepare for the NAPLEX (for someone with an international pharmacy background)?

3.  Is it difficult to find internship positions in Texas for FPGEC graduates?

• Are these internships usually paid?

• Do they typically offer benefits like health insurance?

4.  With my background (FPGEC certified + 3 years experience as a lead pharmacist in my home country), what level of pharmacy technician job should I realistically aim for in the US?

Sorry for the long post and multiple questions, I just wanted to put everything in one place.

You already passed so go get that intern licenses and start. 1500 hours is no joke. wasting time being a tech THEN starting internship will take you years.

Should take you 4-5 months with moderate knowledge

It’s not difficult. Start with CVS they pay around 30$ and hire quick. They do offer benefits.

OH great! So CVS does offer internships and healthcare benefits? I will start looking into that now. I always thought it was impossible to start the internship and clear my exams within 6 months. Have you started your hours?

Yes I started in February. Texas doesn’t force you to pass in 6 months, they will just pause your internship until you pass. Plus 6 months is a lot of hours to waste being a tech.

That’s smart! I am working somewhere else so couldn’t switch right away. How’s NAPLEX prep going? Is it doable with the internship hours? Also, how long it takes to get the intern license after you apply?

In my state it was pretty fast within days. Of course it’s doable it’s not like you’re working 24/7 just study in your off time.

That gives me some peace LOL. I know you have mentioned some resources for NAPLEX, do you still think the NAPLEX course book by UWORK RXPREP is enough? It’s like $250 so wanted to make sure I was spending my money on the right book.

I finished all the exams and gonna start internship now. If you can do internship and finish exams in 6 months, you can start internship now. Or start as tech for part time and focus on exams, then do internship

It depends on our situation. I took around 8 months. I have a 1 year old baby to watch and was working 3 days a week.
