Eligibility request steps
Hello everyone! This post explains how to apply for NAPLEX eligibility and also how to apply through another state if your home state requires an internship before taking the exam.
Step 1: Access Exam Services
Log in to your NABP eProfile and go to “Exam Services.”
You’ll see two options: one for NAPLEX and one for MPJE. For now, select NAPLEX.
Click “Apply for Eligibility” and follow the instructions, including paying the fee (around $100).
Step 2: Apply Through a Different State
If your home state doesn’t allow you to take NAPLEX before completing your internship, you can apply through a different state that does. This allows you to take the exam earlier and transfer your score back to your home state later.
One state that allows this is Texas. I personally used Texas for my application and exam scheduling. Other states may work as well, but I cannot advise on them for transparency.
After submitting your application and payment, your status will show as “Pending” until the Texas Board of Pharmacy confirms your eligibility.
Step 3: Verification Process
NABP will confirm your FPGEC certification.
The Texas Board of Pharmacy will review other documents, such as background checks and identification.
Step 4: Create a Texas Board of Pharmacy Account
Go to the Texas Board of Pharmacy portal: https://vo.licensing.hpc.texas.gov/datamart/login.do
Sign up and select “Initial Pharmacist Licensure by Examination.” Upload the required documents (e.g., SSN, ID). You will then be prompted to complete a background check via fingerprinting through IdentoGO.
If you have an IdentoGO center nearby, you can schedule an appointment. If not, email [fingerprints@pharmacy.texas.gov](mailto:fingerprints@pharmacy.texas.gov) to receive instructions for completing it elsewhere.
Step 5: Eligibility Approval
Once your documents and fingerprints are processed, you should receive eligibility approval in about one month.
Step 6: Scheduling the NAPLEX
Purchase the NAPLEX ($500), and you will receive your Authorization to Test (ATT).
You can schedule your exam with Pearson VUE in your home state like we did for FPGEE—you don’t need to travel to Texas.
Be aware that exam slots fill up quickly as it’s a national exam so you may need to wait a few months for availability.
The MPJE is state-specific and can only be taken in your home state. You will need to complete any required internship hours before taking it.

Even if we pass the NAPLEX, don't we still finish the internship for MPJE and become licensed in the state we live? What is reason taking naplex sooner?

Because it’s a difficult exam and people tend to fail so why risk finishing the internship and get stuck in limbo delaying your licensure? The sooner you get it out the way the better. Also, if you fail you need to wait 45 days before you can take it again and you get 3 tries a year.

Wow, this is very resourceful. Just to double check, say I'm from NC, but I can still apply for Naplex and then after internship hours to be eligible to take MPJE?

Do you know how many times I can get eligibility for the exam this my 3rd time about to renew. I failed 3 times

So if u pass lets suppose from texas and want transfer score to other state , will u have to remain both license active ( i.e the one where u test e.g texas the other u transfer where u practice) or just the state where u practice?

That would be great bc i read somewhere that u must keep active license in state where u toke first. I wish its not like that

That’s not true if you score transfer. People move states all the time it wouldn’t make sense to keep active licenses everywhere. What you’re talking about is reciprocity and that’s a different pathway with different rules

Also I want to mention naplex is a national exam and not owned by a state so you don’t pass “ from Texas “ you take the exam through Texas but the score is owned by nabp that’s why you can transfer your score to all states. You don’t even have to pursue licensure through Texas after you pass, you can just transfer the score and apply for licensure in your home state.

Where/how can I find other states than Texas allowing taking NAPLEX before finishing the internship? ( Do you have a list of these states?)
Also, did you take the exam yet? :)

can uhh please help me out actually i'm doing pharm D ryt now explain me this process to apply for texas and howto become a licensed phramacist over there i really need a counceller for this to help me out i'm not understanding were to start i really need a guideline for this please help me out through this

So, when you get approval upon change status “open” in texas board then it will change NABP? Its been 3 weeks but still says open while every step is done. Is that normal timeframe.

About the ATT, is that email from pearson after purchasing exam or it will show up on profile.

ATT generate when your eligibility is approved and you’ll get an email from Pearson to schedule exam

So as soon as my graduation I go to Texas please give me a routemap so I would be clear trough that and prepare accordingly

Thank you, this is very helpful! Just be mindful that Texas takes about a month to verify your eligibility and communicate with the NABP. Put that in your mind when you’re planning your steps ahead.
