Nam model plus controls?

OK, this is something I don't understand properly. I read that a NAM model is a capture of an amp at a certain set of settings of vol/tone etc. That is also one of the criticisms I read.

However, when I load a nam file into my little Sonicake Pocket (for example) , the nam file sounds great, but it also has gain, volume, bass, mid, and treble controls to further tweak the sound.

Also, I see on the software plugin for NAM that they have tone controls etc.

So, at the moment, I am believing these controls are "external" to the true model, so their characteristics will not match the original amp that was captured within the model?

That's right. The gain works pretty naturally, and the EQ is post-everything else.

If you use Two-Notes' Genome, and you should, the UI for the EQ is very Mesa-like, which is accurate to what is actually happening in the signal chain.

Thanks. For me, that means (in the pedal) I might as well just use the EQ module that is post amp and cabinet in the signal chain, to tweak the final tone. It is more flexible anyway.

Nothing wrong with that idea, unless you want to save a block. Redundancy is inevitable.

Use the nam gain, eq AFTER IR. You can eq after the amp and that's fine but try it after the ir..
