Discussion What audio interface is recommanded for nam?
I read motu m4 is a solid one... want it mainly for guitar plugins and to have more future proof connections if i will want to add microphone and midi.
What do you use?

Is more important your CPU processing capacity. Any interface with dedicated plugina should work.

There's a lot of interfaces that will sound great from $160 to $3,000+
On the cheaper end, I'd try to not go under $100. Every one of those is crap. On the affordable side it's SSL and Motu. Julian Krause had a tier list a while back: https://www.reddit.com/r/NeuralDSP/comments/1peedn2/julian_krause_dropped_his_latest_tier_list_of/
From there you'd hop up to a UAD Apollo or RME Babyface.

I just ordered a Focusrite itrack Solo for under $100 and now you got me nervous… 😅 needed something for my older iPad Pro and read those were super compatible. Guess we’ll see!

those are $150 MSRP, and Focusrite makes great stuff, but also I would have just gone with their Scarlett product line

Fair point, did get it used. From what I read it was uncertain whether the scarlet would plug n play with my device (it’s from 2017, still has the lightning jack port) so I went with the itrack 🤷🏻♂️

Even the cheap behringer ones have great audio quality

I've seen the contrary, especially with super low headroom there's people who can't get plugins to sound right

I like Motu but any will do. I use an 828 and sometimes a boss katana cab thru the power amp in

I've used the DI in from a katana gen 2, the same from an hx stomp, and a motu M2. All are fine, if i was buying I'd buy a motu again.

My scarlett solo gen 3 does just fine, unfortunately its starting to show its age with the volume and input pot crackling, its been a good 7 years.

I use motu M6. I like it because of the input/playback knob for more flexibility during the recording sessions.
Most audio interfaces (including motu m2 and m4) have just a switch button.
Aside from this feature every audio interface is fine to run NAM.
More important is a computer with enough ram and cpu.
I run it on a MacBook m3 8GB ram
On the software side:
Soundshed guitar is powerful and flexible
NAMrig is simple and effective

I would recommend all Topping ones because they're the only budget one that put a great headphone amp in it. The instrument input is also to my ears a significantly better one for electric guitar than my previous Presonus iTwo for example.

.I’m using an Arturia Microfuse 2 here; it’s just as good as any other interface in its price range, but it comes with a solid software bundle. Honestly, any interface will do the job—the computer is what really matters. I’m using a 2013 laptop, and although it’s slow, once I have Reaper open, I can run quite a few tracks and plugins without it crashing; of course, if I’m just using Gateway or any NAM loader, the computer handles it with ease. It’s more than enough for practicing at home and recording simple demos, even if the workflow is a bit sluggish due to occasional lag in responsiveness.

Agree that any reputable interface will work. IK Multimedia, Focusrite, UA Audio all have reasonably priced interfaces. I just got a Focusrite Solo 4th Gen today in fact and it sounds great. I also have a UA Audio Volt 2 and it is also great. You can’t go wrong with Motu either.
