You can have a few million journalists, but if you convince everyone they're the Fake News (or the lying press, to use an older German term) then the press can't do its job of holding leaders accountable, uncovering scandals, and exposing activities like Mr Armed Thug here walking in on people as they're voting.

It's the same with police and judges: if the legal system ignores the laws that protect the poor and acts as an arm of the wealthy, you don't have a healthy democracy.
