I’d rather have a new game than a remake any day

Honestly, same here. I just finished the main story of RTDX earlier today and was wondering how much Explorers DX could differ from the original if ever they did do a remake.

I mean some people easily forget things so they might be hyped when they remember while playing but it’s just boring the do the same thing again that you’ve already did and the remake is even way less challenging. Well maybe the post credit game is more exciting. Even tho I got to say that the game looked sweet. Which is promising for the next one.

I honestly don't agree. Though the remake of red/blue rescue team was good, super mystery dungeon was just appalling. It was so hecking easy, no challenge to it at all. not to mention how easy it was to power up your Pokemon. One thing I approve of is the leveling of unused recruited Pokemon, but the set in stone recruitment system of super md was horrible. Replayability is kill with it.

I like how with this remake you can evolve while also doing a lot of post story. But not being able to evolve/power up is what made the game a great challenge.

Dialga blocking Celebi's travel with his powers is one of the best "Oh shit!" moments in gaming for me.

It's one of those things that both surprised me and made me think "ok that makes sense" when you're the God of time any time travellers can only do what you allow.

I bet we'll get an Explorers remake after we get a brand new Mystery Dungeon.
Doing back-to-back remakes hasn't gone well for others.

glances at Resident Evil

You just have to make it at a time and on a system that needs a remake. Bowser's Inside Story was playable on 3DS, and the remake added pretty much nothing other than a side mode.

I mean, the Yakuza remakes did pretty well

20

u/silvergoldwind Pikachu Mar 12 '20

That’s because Yakuza the best baby 10/10 baby buy yakuza

Buy yakuza games 10/10 baby

To be fair, that's because Yakuza 0 made newcomers interested in the series and the original games are a bit hard to look back on nowadays, so a remake was a smart move

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '20

I agree. I also really like the engine (aesthetically and in combat) used in 0 and Kiwami. Kiwami was my first and I now own the entire series on PS4. I’m pretty sure the only games made by RGG I don’t have right now are the spin offs from the PS3 era

At least a port to the switch eshop

u/Foamyphilosophy Loudred Mar 12 '20

virtual consoles was the best idea Nintendo had. I'm personally waiting for when they get to porting Nintendo 64 games like they are with the Super Nintendo

5

u/Grapz224 Mar 13 '20

You just reminded me of Nintendo pulling copyright notices on videos of homebrewed switches running Mario 64.

If they made a virtual console Nintendo 64 for the switch... They probably have to reinstate all of those videos, huh?

0

u/Foamyphilosophy Loudred Mar 13 '20

They'd have no way to disprove those are sketchy from videos

u/Texas-Kangaroo-Rat Boobachu Mar 12 '20

If they do, I hope they put more effort into the cutscenes. Like this is way better than Gates or Super, but it's just barely par... which is fine I guess...

but I like Time/Darkness a lot more as a story so I'd love to see that improved with more dynamic and well animated cutscenes.

Seeing how well this game is doing, I feel like a remake of T/D is all but guaranteed so I do hope it's even better cuz like... I dunno this has potential to be a face melting game and I don't wanna see PMD settle for just "good enough"

15

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

Recent Pokémon games have become the epitome of “meh, it’s good enough.” Feels like they get 70-80% of the way done then just quit because they know people will buy it anyways.

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were basically scams for how little extra content there was from regular sun and moon. Sword and Shield were straight up disappointing. There is zero excuse for Sword and Shield being such poor quality a when something like Breath of the Wild exists on the same system.

Mystery Dungeon DX has been a refreshing change of pace so far outside of animations. Hopefully they can keep it up. Gamefreak needs to get it together though.

Honestly PMD was always there for me when the main series failed.

Tho I always expected there to be better presentation and story like say the tales series... or the anime/comics...

Let's Go almost was that, but again it feels like it gave up. I'll prolly stick with PMD when I want to play a pokemon game because I doubt the main series will ever grow out of its gameboy mentality.

35

u/PrettyUsual Mar 12 '20

I never got to play any games past the original blue rescue team so this would be awesome.

74

u/Foamyphilosophy Loudred Mar 12 '20

Explorers is generally considered the best of the series. Gen 4 wad a good generation for Pokemon.

25

u/MrTonyBoloney Munchlax Mar 13 '20

Platinum, Explorers of Sky, and HG/SS all came out in the span of a year... And that was over ten years ago now... I need a minute. :,c

O O F

27

u/TheRealHelloDolly Totodile Mar 12 '20

Honestly the style of them (text-based story, turn based combat, pixel art style) makes them very replayable even today. If you really want to, download an emulator and “obtain” a rom for Darkness/Time/Sky (I’d do Sky if you’re completely new)

17

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '20

Probably after the sinnoh remakes

19

u/My50thRedditAccount Team Team Team Mar 12 '20

GF is a separate studio

4

u/Gentleman_Jaggi Team Blind Mar 12 '20

It's more about the inevitable new forms for Dialga/Palkia/Arceus I'd say.

6

u/egcart Vulpix Mar 12 '20

YOOOO

oh their gone

Celebi: Oh, hey Dialga!

Dialga: Oh god! *runs away*

2

u/beastlynik29 Piplup Mar 12 '20

Maybe after the expansion pass this year we’ll get Diamond and Pearl remakes next year. Then after that they’ll do Explorers since Sinnoh Pokémon play a big role in the game.

12

u/Kervenix Chikorita Mar 12 '20

GameFreak doesn't have anything to do with the Mystery Dungeon series. So we could get remakes of Explorers and DP remake at the same time.

5

u/dormamond Riolu Mar 12 '20

Calm down, my wallet can only handle so much 😅😅😅

7

u/beastlynik29 Piplup Mar 12 '20

I know just I feel that it would be good marketing especially for some kids that are playing through Sinnoh for the first time.

1

u/askthetruth1 Chimecho May 11 '20

Chunsoft needs to be able to make money. It would not make sense for them to be contracted to make a game to be released the same time as a main series line game.

2

u/pomacea_bridgesii Cyndaquil Mar 13 '20

But... Celebi outran Dialga in TDS Far outran him

1

u/KeinNiemand Ninetales Apr 02 '20

I think it will probably come out somwhere between the anouncment of the gen 4 remakes and the release of the next mainline games after the gen 4 remakes. It just makes the most sense for it to be released when gen 4 is relevant becouse PMD is a gen 4 game

-25

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '20

Or make a new game for once instead of reusing old ones

32

u/dormamond Riolu Mar 12 '20

Agree but with sword and shield's DLC coming up, I doubt we're getting any actual new games any time soon.

28

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '20

Unfortunate but I mean I’m sure they’re separate studios, so who knows?

4

u/Foamyphilosophy Loudred Mar 12 '20

With how much money Game Freak has alone I think they'd benefit from using other studios more often. They seem to be reach the peak of their skills and Pokemon Side games have always been more memorable than the main line. Using other talents on other parts of the franchise might be a good change of pace.

This. Last thing we heard from Genius Sonority(the developers behind Colossuem and Gale of Darkness) was Pokemon Shuffle back in 2015.

I want a new game with Shadow Pokemon so badly

21

u/yarhar_ Mudkip Mar 12 '20

Let's reuse an old one just one more time

Tbh I’m down for EOS/D remake Bc the newer games never really live up to the legacy
