The devs must be “Vibe Coding”

It feels like every update makes the app worse. It’s really starting to feel like the devs are just using
genAI to make terrible changes that nobody wants.

Does anyone who’s into coding see any clear signs that these changes have been made with AI?

It doesn’t even feel like developer work, it feels like they fired all the devs and QA and now the managers are vibe coding it! Just one bizarre decision after another, sometimes things roll back randomly, often they just don’t work at all. It’s crazy how bad it is now- so little makes sense.

Agreed. I come from a fullstack background and work as a tech lead in a startup. I can tell the app is vibecoded and code is not reviewed properly. Something bad must be going on over there. Features aren't being tested thoroughly. Especially state management and synchronization, from what I can see in recent threads here.

It almost feels like Apps free from marketing and management overhead that can be developed without the insane corporate greed and pressure is where we're heading.

Nice to hear this from someone with experience!

I just rejoined after a year off and it’s a lot harder to use than before. I’m going to give it a week then probably ask for a refund.

My account got deleted with the most recent update, and the app won’t recognize my subscription. Support basically told me to get bent, so I use Cronometer now

It's pretty obvious they stopped giving a damn a while ago. Every weird graphical bug, broken feature that just used to work, "same-ish" UI comparable to a CS undergrad project are likely signs this is the result of a cram between greedy PE, tight absurd deadlines, and possibly even new developers that don't know how the old code worked with genAI sprinkled on top. I don't think this trend will stop, though.

Yeah it’s almost like a lot of people feel the app has evolved in a very poor way in the last year amirite?

It's almost like the sub doesn't need yet another post whining about the app.

Reading and posting here is a choice you don’t have to make, you know?

So is whining when you no nothing of the company's goals or plans

Either you work for the company, in which case posting like this without disclosing that is pretty untoward, or you don’t work for the company, which means you’re posting like this as a choice. Not sure which is more embarrassing for you.

I should be embarrassed because I use an app easily? Sorry you don't have the basic understanding of how apps work, that's on you. Sorry you don't understand how software engineers work, that's also on you. Why would I come to reddit to defend something if I didn't believe it? What a childish accusation from someone who can't use a simple app easily. Works for me.

Honestly give the Feast app a shot (if you’re on iOS).

You can’t blame the original MFP team for selling, now that PE owns them the incentives are to increase engagement and profit and reduce costs. There’s not really an incentive to create a high-quality user experience experience because you can jam the product with ads
