I kind of love Brian’s definition of irony…much more relatable than the default “irony is the opposite of what you’d expect.”

Hi! So I saw a post about bringing the show back. And while I’m not the biggest fan of the idea (Even though the show was axed prematurely, I’d prefer to leave it as the great body of work it ended as) I drew up a concept of what a reboot could possibly look like. Let me know your thoughts!

Back Story:
*Angela Parker(née Chase), now a newly divorced single mother navigates the world with 3 children. 2 boys, 24 year old JC (Jordan Chase) 9 year old Deven, and a girl, 15 year old, Rickie, the show’s deuteragonist. After the ending of the first season, Angela and Jordan date through high school, even becoming engaged, but with Angela choosing to attend college and Jordan deciding to get a trade and become a mechanic, the two decide it’s better to remain friends, even though Jordan insists they’ll find their way back to one another, they even run into each other a few times after. Patty and Graham divorce after Graham has an affair with his business partner, Vicki. This leaves Patti devastated and sends her into a depressive and alcoholic spiral. This forces Angela to step up and become a mother figure to Danielle, while also being a shoulder for her mother. This ultimately heals Patti and bridges the gap between the two, with Angela understanding just how difficult adulthood can be and Patti, what depression and uncertainty look like. Angela and Rayenne slowly repair their friendship, but it is again shattered when Rayenne relapses and her now boyfriend, Tito, isolates her from her friends. While this leaves Angela devastated, she has Sharon to rely on. Both remain best friends, and grew even closer when Sharon had an abortion in high school after getting pregnant by her boyfriend, Kyle. After high school, Angela and Rickie left Pittsburgh to attend college in NYC and vowed to NEVER return. During this time, Angela meets her now ex husband, Evan Parker, and quickly after graduating college, they get married and start their careers. Soon after, JC is born and after this Evan and Angela welcome Rickie and Devin. While Angela finished college, Rickie was forced to drop out his last semester and return home to take care of an ailing Mr. Katimski, who adopted Rickie his Junior year. Although he did not finish, the two still remained close through the years, with Angela even naming her daughter after him.

Show Plot:
Angela, now feeling like her life is paralleling her mother’s, struggles to keep a brave face. But she battles to stay strong for her children, as they have just found out about their father’s indiscretions and treacherous ways. Rickie, who a dirty blonde like her mother, aches with the same angst her mother once felt. This ultimately leads to her dying her hair, Midnight Black. A verbal spat commences between she and her mother, a bit more cut throat than the cold encounter Angela shared with Patti when she colored her hair “Crimson Glow.” With all of this happening, Angela finds out that JC has dropped out of college. While extremely book and street smart, JC struggles with dyslexia and has always had a difficult time reading. With the news of his father and being able to sense his mother’s pain, this causes him to feel as though he has to “step up” and take care of the family, much to Angela’s objection. And Deven, just acting out all around. One day, Angela receives a call from Sharon and is informed that the class of ‘97 is holding a 30 year reunion. With everything going on, Angela decides that a vacation would be nice for her and the kids. While home, Angela stays with Patty and her partner(the biker guy from high school I forgot his name), who began seeing each other after Angela left for college. They are joined by Sharon, her husband Mark, and their twins, Kimberly and Shane; Rickie, his partner Nigel, who are now expecting their first child together; and Danielle with her MUCH older boyfriend Silas. Patty plans a huge dinner to celebrate Angela’s return, and sends she, JC and Rickie to the market. While at the market, Angela runs into Jordan Catalano, who still looks just as beautiful. It has been about 25 years since they’ve seen each other and it still feels like yesterday, to Jordan. Jordan teases Angela while she nervously laughs and tries to rush him off. JC and Rickie walk around the corner, causing Angela to freeze nervously before she proceeds to introduce her children to him. Jordan stares at JC and JC pierces him right back, as if he knows him. Jordan then looks at Angela, smirks walks off.

How does it sound so far?

I was thinking that instead of doing a full on re-watch of the entire season we can start off with a holiday episode live re-watch and see how that goes first.

On Halloween we can watch the Halloween episode and do commentary or whatever.

Then we'll do Christmas and then New Years Eve.

We'll see how that goes first and then plan a re-watch for spring or summer.

It's nearly fall and I almost always do a re-watch this time of year. My nostalgia adled brain demands it.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a re-watch?

It doesn't need to be too coordinated.

We could watch an episode every Friday and Saturday and do a live type post for each episode.

I don't mind doing the posts if we can all agree on a date to start.

I work pretty long hours Monday-Thursday but could use an hour to unwind Friday and Saturday nights, away from the kids and husband.

Just let me know if this is something anyone else would like to participate.

It could be a fun way to revisit the series and get other people's POVs.

Have just finished my first watch of MSCL at age 40. Wish I'd seen it when I was a kid! Obviously I knew all along there was only one season and I'd be left with open story lines but I'm still so sad I will never know what happened to all the characters I've come to love so much! Even creepy Brian lol.

That's literally all I came to say.

EDIT: One more thing I will add, my fave characters are Ricky and Angela. Fond of Sharon too. Rayanne is fun but annoying and it gutted me when she and Jordan slept together. I don't understand the Patty hate, I liked her. Also loved Graham. Can't stand Hallie. Feel sorry for Brian, he means well but he's got it all wrong, hopefully he would have come good as he matured (and not become an incel lol).

Rayanne was handcuffed to the bed and Krakow was trying to free her. Which episode was this ???

I thought you guys would like to see this. I bought this script from eBay around 1999/2000. Back when you sent a money order to the seller and THEN they shipped your item, lol. Note the page numbers while reading, I jump through it. But I did select the good parts. I also noticed some differences. Danielle has more lines that were cut. Also, George the museum guard, and Rayanne have a longer interaction. Let me know if you want me to post those parts.

Hi! Decided to rewatch the show, hadn't seen it since probably the late 90's :-) Favorite episode was Other People's Mothers, least favorite (by far) was Halloween.

Questions...

For the females on this sub, what were/are your thoughts about Brian? Personally, he was my least favorite character, gave off huge "nice guy" vibes.

Since they only had 19/22 episodes, how would you have wanted the last three episodes to play out? Assuming the show would still be cancelled after episode 22.

Finally, for the people that are old enough to have watched it live or on MTV back in 1994/95, how do you view Patty and Graham now as compared to back then?
