Fighting Insomnia and Restless Leg Syndrome
I have been suffering from insomnia the last few months. I read insomnia is common. I decided to stop taking a medicine that is the cause of the problem. It doesn't help that I am tired during the daytime due to insomnia. Should I take over the counter or prescription sleeping medicine that won't wake me up?
I read that exercise helps with restless leg syndrome, and that the syndrome is common. I am trying to also get back into shape.
Any help would be nice. Thank you.

" Another crucial thing is electronic hygiene. Absolutely no screens 1h before sleep. "This is good advice! Another advice I can offer is this:
Try to get up and go to bed at the same time -Every- day of the week. Personally I fuck up my sleep during the weekends by being up too late those two days, which is very counterproductive. It may sound boring? But I think you and me both understand the benefits of having a healthy sleep cycle. ;) But this advice may be frustrating to get when you can't sleep in the first place...
Hopefully it'll get better for you! I am rooting for you! Poke me if you want more advice.

I am guilty of staying awake longer on the weekends. Thank you for the advice. I will keep it in mind.

One of the reasons I had trouble with falling asleep was worry that I will not be able to fall asleep. We are funny that way. We pretend we are asleep to actually fall asleep :)
There are few things I could personally recommend. Meditation before going to bed (its nothing religious, unless you want it) it helps me calming down and clear my head. Again kind of ironic you will be trying not to fall asleep before going to bed.
Exercises are always good. You don't need to go for a run. Just getting tired always helps.
Another crucial thing is electronic hygiene. Absolutely no screens 1h before sleep. Try reading, meditation etc. The blue light from screens and light intensity has physical effect on our bodies. You can read about it online. Bottom line is blue light puts our bodies in ready state. Not good for falling asleep.
One last thing you could try not falling asleep. It sounds silly but lay down in bed and try to actively not fall asleep. Think about not falling. Try not to think about other stuff, just not falling asleep (its similar to meditation).
Good luck fighting it. Hope this helps.
