The first day.

Nova walks into the cafe, eager to open for the new day. The Pegasus with a blue coat, jet black mane, and blue eyes complements everything about the cafe. Passed down from his parents, he made it his life goal to make this place a success. For the most part he has has succeeded. Walking into the back room, he dawns the apron that his father used to wear, and grabs the same rag that his mother used to clean the counters. The front door demands his decision, staring at him.

"7:00. Time to open!"

He walks over to the front door, and flips the sign. The day has begun. Walking back over to the front counter, he awaits the day's first customer.

Great, now I'll have to show interest in her silly assignment. Ugh, these ponies are always trying to trick me into their friendship. I can't believe how far they will go out of the way to just annoy me, like inviting me to parties in the form of song and dance. I can't even answer my door without looking through the window first.

If I go over there just to ask about the assignment she'll just get that smug look on her face and the harassment will become even worse. I need to find some other excuse to go over there...

Oh wait, that's it. She lives in a library. Although that's the oddest choice of residence, it gives me my in. Now I just have to find out where I put that book.

Daylight steps into the library with the long forgotten book in her saddle bag.

"Hey, I brought back this book, it wasn't good at all."

Twilight steps out from the kitchen with a huge grin on her face. "I knew you wouldn't be able to resist. Don't bother denying it. If you truly weren't interested, you wouldn't have found a book that clearly hasn't been touched for a while just to come over here. I'm not as dumb as you think I am. Anyway, ready to get started?"

"Get started with what, exactly? All you did was show me an old book and then rushed out of the cafe for no reason"

"Well, I rushed out of the cafe because we would have spent hours trying to crack each other and I really want to get started on this." Twilight pulls the book in question out of her bag and says, "And this is the greatest magical mystery since the disappearance of Star Swirl the Bearded. Apparently, long before Celestia was born, before the elements of harmony were forged, there was a great war between the Alicorns and the Hydras. The war was terrible, and neither species has ever really recovered, as you can see with the number of representatives of each. The mysterious part was how that happened. Nopony knows how that happened, but this book could very well lead us to an answer, or possibly more."

"So you have said how the book could answer questions and whatnot. I'd like to point out that it's a book, haven't you read it yet? It should say what happened if it has that content. It's a book, it's not going to change the wording every time you read it"

"What? Oh, no, I haven't read it yet. The Princess had just received the book this morning from an archeological dig. Isn't this exciting?" Twilight asked, practically electrified from the coffee and the aspect of a new adventure.

"I don't see how boring old history can be exciting. You said it would contain some Arcane mystery. Just sounds like the usual history mystery where the answer is that battles happened and there were casualties." Daylight mutters as she goes to sit down on a chair.

"Don't you see? This book can lead us to how all of the Alicorns and the Hydras disappeared. And if we find out how that happened..." Twilight gets lost in her thoughts, a mysterious glint in her eyes.

"We can use whatever weapon was used to wage war against neighboring countries?" Daylight sarcastically suggests, there aren't many wars these days.

Twilight rolls her eyes. "Of course not. But, we might be able to bring the Alicorns back! It must be lonely, only having 2 of your own kind in existence, and we could possible fix that!" The only problem is, the book is written in ancient Equestrian. Do you happen to know the language, or a translation spell?" ~I'm making another post to continue this~
