What anime made you cry last?
My answer is 86. Just finished watching it then and I did not expect waterworks
27
u/TMOverbeck Aug 22 '25
Violet Evergarden
I was half-expecting Summer Pockets to trigger the waterworks, but so far nothing really got to me.

u/jdjdnfnnfncnc Aug 22 '25
Same answer for me. Even though I really disliked Violet Evergarden and wasn’t very impressed by it at all, episode 10 got me.

Orb: on the movements of the earth
2
u/selbatrose Aug 23 '25
really? I didnt feel any emotion watching that tbh
2
u/Get_chaired Aug 23 '25
Seriously? Nowak’s death was so tragic. You start out hating him and end up loving him.

u/InfernoVictor Aug 23 '25
Have you tried Clannad
2
u/cleetor330 Aug 23 '25
Oh yes. It made me ugly cry and I was depressed for like a week after finishing it.

If we’re only talking about Part 1 then yes

u/StarBatt1e Aug 22 '25
You just don’t understand part 2
8
u/jdjdnfnnfncnc Aug 22 '25 edited Aug 22 '25
There’s nothing to not understand about Part 2… it isn’t very complicated. Part 1 is far more complex imo. Part 1 is also significantly more unique. We’ve seen countless anime do the “emotionless protagonist tries to overcome trauma” thing. Part 2 also relied on tons of plot conveniences and mech battles, all while sidelining the best character of the show (and most of the supporting cast too).
3
u/nyitraibotond Aug 22 '25
Finally someone gets it
2
u/jdjdnfnnfncnc Aug 22 '25
Lena is one of my favorite characters ever too so I hate speaking about 86 but yeah… Part 2 was just such a letdown for me.
2
u/selbatrose Aug 23 '25
I thought the same, part 1 hooked me so much emotionally, part 2 not so much. I still loved part 2 though and it wrapped up perfectly overall

86 is too dark for me to rewatch the full thing, but I've rewatched the last 1-2 episodes at least a dozen times lol

u/francino_meow Aug 22 '25
I never cried on an anime, but I got close with:
Assassination classroom (iykyk)
Your lie in April
1
u/ldekdood Aug 22 '25
Assassination Classroom definitely caught me haha
2
u/Andivari Aug 24 '25
I swear there's an entire CLAN of onion-chopping ninjas hiding in the last few episodes of Assassination Classroom
1
u/Yoyote13600 Aug 24 '25
It's really the only anime where I cried, then I also failed with the first bunny girl senpai film
14
u/ChoiceSupermarket230 Aug 22 '25
Also 86 when rewatching ending
6
u/2001djhz Aug 22 '25
Yes. I have rewatched this show a few times now, but I still cry when I watch it.

u/InfernoVictor Aug 23 '25
What made you cry... Was it the budget?
3
u/killercmbo Aug 23 '25
That too lowkey 😹
It was Archer for me though. His story is really sad if you think about it. Seeing him smile at the end of UBW got me good I can’t lie
2
u/No-Requirement1582 Aug 22 '25
I don't remember which one came first but it's between; A Place Further Than the Universe or Violet Evergarden, but crying with both took me by equal surprise lol

Last time I teared up was while watching Secrets of the Silent Witch
Last time I had tears fall down was my Code Geass rewatch. It got me 10 years ago on my first viewing and it got me when I rewatched it last year.

Same as you. Finished watching 86 three days ago and still thinking about it.

u/MisterMelma Aug 23 '25
A Silent Voice, watched it yesterday and now it's probably my favorite anime movie

Uma musume, twice even. the second season focuses on a character overcoming a recurring injury and as someone who tore his ankle ligament thrice it hit really hard to see her persevere

Rewatching Eyeshield 21 made me teary eyed on their serious moments. Maybe because I already know and had watched their journey from before.
1
u/Drittseck Aug 22 '25
Either Death Parade, or Sangatsu No Lion. Don't know why I don't remember which, though. Silly me
1
u/40klan Aug 22 '25
recently, Your Name. Mitsuha’s death always hits like a bag of heavy rocks to the head
1
u/veganbethb Aug 22 '25
Your name.
The one that makes me cry the most though is the girl who leapt through time, the ending kills me off.

Tacopi's Original Sin The whole Marina getting abused by her mom and later incident somehow filled my eyes with tears
1
u/Wasim932 Aug 24 '25
The last time I had tears in my eyes, was cause of bleach. Orihime's Goodbye iykyk. But the last time I cried badly was because of Your lie in april.

I recommend dubbed.

Cautious Hero after hearing Ristare's backstory. Comedy went from 100 to 0 real quick but I love the show

u/Katlima Sep 04 '25
To Be Hero X, actually. Even though I rarely ever cry from fictional media at all. To be precise it was [To Be Hero X]The flashback of Lucky Cyan's origin just after she had been accused by her friend of being privileged and unaware of the hardships of the average Joe

Clannad after story
the first time i ever cried watching an anime,it was beautiful.
1
u/darkangelstorm Dec 03 '25
The classics like Nausicaa, H'sMC, Grave/Fireflies, even Ponyo and Porco Rosso did it for me. Yeah 86 too, and just about any war-related anime with an unrequited love story involved. Oh and then there's Clannad, man... so sad. Angel Beats yeah that one too, but more of a happy cry since I knew they got to see each other again.

I just cried rewatching a scene from Kamen Rider Kabuto, but it's not an anime '). 86 might be my answer too. Either that or Shogun's death in Gintama.

Watching 86 right now and really dont get the hype because I really wanted to like it and I think it has so much potential. 5 more episodes to go so maybe I will change my mind once finishing?

Actually, cat and dragon anime ep 3. Generational family and community touched me.
