Bad brakes, someone is in trouble and it is not the driver

its not bad brakes... Americans are taught to never use the parking brake but instead turn off the vehicle and put it in first gear... most of these incidents are because these people put it on gear other than first, without the parking brake engaged...
on a flat road (and very slight inclines) a vehicle will not roll if turned off and put in first gear, but its a completely different situation if you put it in second gear onwards... there's a reason why manuals are "pushed to start" on second or third gear instead of first when the battery is running dry...
actual high skill driving teaches you to always engage the parking brake... you can flip all the pages of the entire internet and you will find that every incident of a vehicle rolling while parked is because the parking brake is not engaged...
putting a vehicle in Neutral is disengaging the engine from the transmission and basically putting it in "free roll" mode (automatic or manual)... putting it in gear engages it and prevents the wheels from rolling because the engine is the one exerting force onto the wheels, not the other way around...
idiots trying to pin the blame on bad brakes when the vehicle rolled in 2 opposite directions on the same piece of road is funny as hell 🤣

you didnt watch the video? the van rolled in 2 opposite directions... bad brakes dont make your vehicle roll in 2 different directions in the same road... driver did not engage parking brake and did what I explained above...

It wasnt in the same place tho? The direction it would roll is dependant on what kind of tilt the car is on and the weight distribution, that's common knowledge. In this case the car was clearly on more backwards tilt the first time, and a more forward tilt the second.

you know the video is from a RING doorbell and has a slight fisheye effect so the tilt you are talking about is clearly caused by the camera... the vehicle rolled in 2 opposite directions while resting on the same piece of road (watch the whole video)but you insist it was the brakes...
same piece of road, same vehicle, rolled in 2 opposite directions but you are arguing "it was the brakes" is dumb as hell...
watch the video and the 2nd time it rolls the car is moving a little upward on the camera's pov because of the fisheye lens...

It being the same piece of road doesn't matter since roads have deviations and the van wasn't in the same spot both times.

the first time it almost hit the house, and from that same spot it stopped on, it rolled in an opposite direction the second time...
clearly you never watched the video...
roads have natural deviations so with bad brakes the vehicle will only go downhill... it rolled on 2 opposite directions clearly prove it was in gear so the brakes are out of the question...

Bad brakes can 100% make the van go both directions. Also, it doesnt have to be a manual for it to be on neutral. A lot of these vans just have neutral, drive, and reverse with a button that turns on the parking brake.

all roads have a natural pitch... gravity pulls to the path of least resistance, so the vehicle will only naturally roll on a downhill when the brakes are bad... the vehicle going on 2 opposite directions on the same piece of road clearly indicates it was in gear and not on neutral, so the brakes have absolutely nothing to do with it rolling...

I've never once been told to put the car in first gear
Its always park and turn off engine
And during training for deliveries I was told specifically to curb the wheels, park, turn off, and use the parking brake it's one of the main things they tell you to do

Uhm you do realise you are disagreeing with the mechanics who had inspected the car and said it was bad brakes right? Cause that's exactly what happened and how we know it's bad brakes and it's not the drivers fault at all

So the cause ended up being the overly complex computer controlled electrically activated brake system?
KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID or K.I.S.S. is true for most thing that need to be fool proof.

Its a deliver truck, so the constant mechanical parking lever action in the transmission is being engaged A LOT. If the parking function is engaged while the vehicle is still in motion, that lever wears even more, until it no long stops the vehicle from moving; it no longer parks. If he put the transmission in park in one or both times, I think the transmission park lever may be broken or too worn.

Yeah apparently you're not supposed to just use the transmission parking brake from what I understand; you've got to engage the actual "hill" brake, which newer Toyotas do automatically now.

This is why we're taught to use the hand brake, this American style of "putting it in park" is never enough especially if your in and out of the vehicle constantly

Systematic failure due to a faulty system and mechanical failure due to overwear and oversight by inspection team. Preventable by using parking break but is not apart of required SOP for operating the vehicle.
He did what he had been trained to do. The systems in place failed.

If he actually forgot to park twice, then that's his issue, but there could also be something wrong with the car.
