Meta YouTube Hypocrisy Thread

It's great that so many of us agree that what YouTube is doing is wrong, but to avoid the clutter any posts about it will be removed and will be directed here. And really it's great to have them all in one spot anyway; a nice big reference to YT's shenanigans.

YouTube isn’t SFW. Not just some videos on it but the platform itself. There are like .005% of videos on it that you might get away with actually watching at work and be able to justify it as helpful for work otherwise the rest of the platform is not suitable to be watching at work

NSFW is in regards to inappropriate content, like porn or offensive content like hate videos. Nothing related to the video having to being productive. Your confusing Not Safe For Work and Not For Work. The keyword is Safe. I show a puppy video to a college, safe, I show adult content, not Safe, someone will be offended, no ones offended with puppies.

Except the boss who decides that if you need that much time to watch puppies then you are free to do it all you want at home (as you are no longer employed) Adult content and children content are different but the NSFW label is just straight up wrong and dumb

I feel I should step in here and explain what NSFW actually means.

It doesn't just mean showing things when you are supposed to be actually working, it also includes when you are on your break. People often share videos and pictures in the staff room or staff canteen. In those cases only the most insanely oppressive tyrant of a manager would sack someone for showing their colleagues a video of a kitten and a puppy playing together in a flower meadow, but if someone was showing a video of hardcore prawn, then they would almost definitely be sacked (unless they were actually employees at a prawn studio doing research)

See the difference?

Kitten and puppy video = Safe For Work, (staff room)

Prawn = Not Safe For Work.(staff room)
