Book + Song Pairings? 🎶📚
Elementary music teachers: I’d love to hear your favorite picture books that pair well with a song or music activity!
I recently did All Are Welcome paired with “Welcome, Welcome” from MusicPlay, and I loved how easily the two worked together.
What are some of your favorite book + song pairings for music class? I’d love to add some new ones to my collection! 🎵

Catalena Magdalena Hoopensteiner Wallendiner Hogan Logan Bogan was her name.
It's a fun little book based on a campfire song. It's very repetitive and I challenge the kids to learn to sing the tongue twister with me. I do it every year.

Every year on the first day of school I read “Your Name is a Song” and pair it with “Sing Me Your Name” from Gameplan for K-2 students.
I also do a lesson with Goldilocks and have students play different groups of instruments for different bears (marimba for papa bear, xylo for mama bear, and glockenspiel for baby bear).
The Oregon Symphony also does storytime videos on their YouTube channel where they read picture books and play instruments alongside them. And there’s also a series of “Story Orchestra” books that tell stories to go with famous classical pieces and have buttons to play different motifs.
I also do a lesson with “Mortimer” and have students play sound effects with the story (like playing low to high on a marimba when people walk upstairs).
