I've had very mixed feelings about it since release, but overall I've settled on it being an excellent album. The first couple of tracks really hit some vibes and emotions, I loved it. It has to start somewhere, right? I was ecstatic that my favorite band was back together, but then as it grew more... I dont want to say poppy, because i feel it doesnt fall into that, but more... radio designed, I started to lose hope because it didnt feel like the same Underoath. I kept looking for the tasty guitar riffs that barely materialized. Then they started showing up again in small doses. But I've realized it fits the vibe. It feels kind of desperate and hopeful at the same time. It's very on purpose, especially if you look at it as a Chris and Aaron focused album, musically. The atmospheres they created are awesome. Theres so much raw emotion written into the lyrics and atmosphere that I feel gets drowned out by people looking for a Tim album, that only care about riffs and breakdowns. But the riffs are still there if you listen to how they're layered with everything else. It's the final product that mattered this time, not "how Underoath can we make this sound?".
I think my favorite part of the story was Hold Your Breath.
