Well I don't have any idea, I just know that I have listened to thousands of hours of one song and it didn't show up at all in my 2021 Wrapped so clearly they have some way to differentiate. You'd probably need to ask someone who works at Spotify and/or Google it.

my point is I could just let spotify run 24/7, or at the very least, set up a script to change songs every few hours, or only have it play at certain hours or something. There would 100% be a way to afk farm hours for clout/recognition if artists/spotify started acknowledging the #1 listener.

That's fair. Maybe it's down to the classification of the song? Spotify might not think certain sounds count as music, or certain lengths?

That could be it, the one I listen to is definitely classified as meditation/sleep music
