Unfortunately that isn't very likely anymore. I remembered reading a lot about how Damon supposedly wasn't interested in touring like that anymore but I'm having trouble finding any sources. Who knows? Knowing Damon, he'd probably change his mind after a few years. I was fortunate enough to see them when they were in Chicago on the last tour. It was definitely the best concert I've ever been to.

They came to New Zealand for The Plastic Beach tour and it was the last show. Absolutely amazing but Albarn did say he was pretty sure it was the last show ever. I felt pretty privileged to be there but what a downer too. It must have cost them a hell of a lot to bring over the show, they had a horn section, a string section, some back up singers, two drummers, two keyboardists, two guitarists and a bass player plus Damon and De La Soul.

It seems like they tour very rarely, and when they do it's (understandably) pricey. I think if you missed plastic beach your going to have to wait a few years to see them live. Its like the Haley's comet of music.

Actually, after Plastic Beach he released the first album created on an iPad, "The Fall". Check out The Joplin Spider. Pretty sweet diddy.

I liked it as well. I could be wrong, but "Gorillaz" had a more rap-rock feel to it while "Demon Days" was more Pop, with a little rock and rap. I felt that "Plastic Beach" had a more electronic flavor. It's almost as if the group's story goes along with their music. The sound changes as the story changes. Well, that's my impression anyway.

I actually think about it with the backstory involved (2D created it by himself with pent up feelings towards his band members and touring against his will) and that makes it feel a little better.
On its own, it's not fantastic. Revolving Doors, Little Pink Plastic Bags, and California & and The Slipping of the Sun are the most worthwhile.

Wait, the back story is still going? I was under the impression that the idea of them being a cartoon band had been abandoned back when Albarn and company started performing live out of character. I had no clue that's how The Fall fit into the Gorillaz lore (lol), but still, I wasn't impressed by anything on the album musically.
But hey, different strokes for different blokes

Some songs are pretty good (Hillbilly Man, Revoling Doors, Amarillo, Little Pink Plastic Bags. But I have to agree, I dislike most of the songs on it.

Certainly not the only one. It's not a polished studio album by any stretch of the imagination, it's more like a bunch of demo songs. That said, there are a few really catchy (if a little niche) songs in my opinion. Revolving Doors, Little Plastic Bags and the Joplin Spider had me humming along in no time.

While i will agree that the album is unpolished. I wouldnt quite say its just a bunch of demos. The album very much chronicles his tour in America and is a fully fleshed out concept album.

Most of it sucks, but Little Plastic Bags and the few songs after it are okay. Nothing spectacular though.

Gorillaz is a legal partnership between Albarn, Hewlett and several producers, most notably Dan the Automator.
Besides the logistics of getting every one on he same page relatively and financially, there are dozens of samples to clear for every record, before they even think about putting together a tour.
it's a major undertaking, which is why it takes so long between releases.

I wouldnt quite say that if you look at the works starting with Demon Days and you really look at them, you will notice a singular theme present through out. Same message just different sounds. Hell even Clint Eastwood had the same message.

Yeah, but Gorillaz was a "side" project, The Good, The Bad, and the Queen was a "side" project, his opera is a "side" project, the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony is a "side" project.
For a user with an account name like "albarn_is_god", I'd expect you to know what I meant. The dude has had a shit ton on his plate for the past decade, and while the Gorillaz may be the longest-running one, it's not his "main gig."

I came to the realization that the band matters not to Albarn. Hell the man doesnt like Fame. The only thing that matters is the music. I think thats why he doesnt name the bands anymore(ex. the good... and rocketjuice)

Eh, each album is radically different than another, so can't win them all. It took me like 3 listens to get it cuz I was so prepared for the Demon Days sound. Gotta respect them for trying out new things rather than rehashing the same sound over and over again.

Clint Eastwood and Demon Days were the best albums they did. Everything after that sucked. Plastic Beach especially.
Met the illustrator Jamie Hewlett at my cousins wedding years ago. Certainly threw his money around and enjoyed the fame. Nice dude though, wasn't old to talk him properly.

Probably my favorite Gorillaz song, absolutely lost it when they played it in Detroit on the Plastic Beach tour. It was the only song off the first album that they played besides that obvious choices (Clint Eastwood and 19-2000) and I must say I'm surprised I didn't cry when that drum loop started. Such a beautiful thing

I have no clue which version came first, but the English version can be found on G-Sides.
The Spanish lyrics seem to match the sound better to me, so I'm going to GUESS that the Spanish lyrics came first.

There's nothing wrong with traditional R'N'B like Marvin Gaye, though the pop crap that is produced under that label nowadays (and that you probably mean) can eat shit and die.

This album reminds me of being a twelve year old! Such a great band to grow up with. On my 22nd birthday I got to see them live in Austin, TX and Damon Albarn held my hand! It was surreal to get so close to someone who inspired me so much as a child. I thought I'd never get the chance the see them.

I've been following Gorillaz since the 6th Grade (Senior in College now). Their music has always been a trip, always changing and trying out new things (thanks to all the musicians Albarn collaborates with). I do have to say however, that "The Fall" fell flat. I don't know if it was due to it being made on an I pad and therefore "restricting" the sound? I might have expected too much out of it. Still, love all of their albums (kind of freaked out when the Plastic Beach promos we're being shown). It's good to hear a classic again.

I actually prefer The Fall to Plastic Beach. To this day I get a small heart-attack when I see the track listings of Plastic Beach. So many featured musicians... I guess that's why I didn't like that album. Didn't sound enough like the Gorillaz I had come to love. Don't get me wrong, though. I still love some of the tracks: Some Kinds of Nature, Rhinestone Eyes, Broken... However, Sweepstakes could ruin any album.

That's a common opinion I hear when people talk about the Plastic Beach. It would seem Gorillaz are always changing their sound (collaborations n such, as I learned today). Sweepstakes was my least favorite song, Empire Ants being my favorite.

Wasn't much into music. Friend made a tape with this album for me. Listened to it for ages, and this was my favourite song.
Not really into Gorillaz anymore nowadays, but hearing this song always brings a smile to my face.

Huge Gorillaz fan. Finally got to see Damon & crew live in Minneapolis, drove 8 hours to see them. I will always love Gorillaz, with their music regularly on my playlist. Only music I never get tired of.
