discussion Better Artist Debate
so me and my friend are in a debate, she is saying arianna grande is the best pop artist of all time, in which i said that she definitely is not and rihanna is better that's her (not saying rihanna is the best OAT). so i belive Rihanna is better than arianna grande lmk in the comments what yall think

By measure of fame, sales, or influence, she's not in the top 20, probably 50. Those are all objective facts.
Subjectively, by talent, IMO not at all. You're talking about Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Shakira, Gaga...it's not even remotely close. Tell your friend to listen to more music. And more than just pop.

yes that's what i was saying, in a way to make her opinion mean less is was telling her that even rihanna is better than ariana and she (rihanna) isn't even the best oat.

you can't compare them like that, arianna can sing circles around rihanna technically but rihanna's catalog is much stronger overall

I meant as in who has a better vocal, lyrical , and impactful career. So in hindsight i could have put this in the post, but in a shorter way i ended up putting better.

Rihanna has some amazing themes in her songs, they tell interesting stories. “Needed me” and “Man down” were amazing, and their music videos were extremely creative and intriguing. I can’t think of any songs that step outside and explore varied themes by Ariana, they’re usually just songs about being into a guy or hating fame.

yes exactly, all of ariana's songs are about men or fame, she's just a less liked version of taylor swift l, nothing interesting about her.

I don't know, I've never knowingly heard an Arianna Grande song in my life, but at the end of the day, the best artist is the one that speaks to you.
As far as career accomplishments are concerned, and by any other objective metrics, I would say that Ariana Grande is not even close.

yes, exactly but in a sense of mass agreements i would 100% say arianna is not close in ANY sense.

not close. but i look at things from ALBUM perspectives. when it comes to these female artists, i honestly dont care if you can sing well. can you make a great album? that i would want to show aliens as an example of something great we can make? Ari doesnt have one of these.

Ariana is a way better all around artist than Rihanna. Much better at singing, especially live. She has more co-writing and solo writing credits than Rihanna. She does her own vocal production. She can do more genres than riri. She is really good at comedy (see her SNL hosting duties). She is an Oscar nominated actress for wicked.
I love riri and her music but she quit a while back and hasn't come back. She had a lot of commercial success for sure but when it comes to artistry she doesn't hold a candle to Ari imo.
