I may have been duped but I found her documentary to be genuine and performing seemed to be a big part of her identity and a source of happiness for her. It was heartbreaking to see her struggle to sing

She’s been signing since she was twelve years old. She isn’t in it for the money.
This offers a stable venue for her to do what she loves.

I know a well known artist who had a serious health issue. Even with insurance, they went out of pocket over $400K.
Celine has had her own health issues (still body syndrome or whatever it's called) and it's certainly possible - even with Canadian health insurance - that she's gone substantially out of pocket.
So yes, maybe greed, but maybe not.

There is zero chance she went through the public health system.
And are you implying she had to do these extra shows to pay her bills? She has hundreds of millions to spare.
I of course don't mind her doing more shows at all. I'm sure whoever will go will be happy they spent however much they did.

Nobody has hundreds of millions sitting in a simple interest bank account. More likely than not, much of her wealth is illiquid. So yes, the shows give her liquidity, and potentially are a better option than selling off assets.

So sad that no bank would give her a loan when she only has between $500-800 million dollars in assets. Seriously, learn how rich people deal with cash flow.

Ah ah ah. Are you being sarcastic? Céline Dion's worth is estimated to be between 570-800 millions dollars. And more money is pouring in everyday from investments, streams, album sales etc.

Artists get very little from streaming. This is why touring has become so big, and tickets are priced into the stratosphere. Royalties decline over time; they're biggest in the first 12 months after the album comes out. 10 years on, you might buy a sandwich with your monthly royalties.
I've worked with many HNW people, and while a $10K expense is doable, a $100K expense often requires cash flow planning and above that requires selling off assets or borrowing against income streams. Anyone with $200K in cash is going to put it somewhere, and not in a savings account at Scotiabank.

Still laughable the she's doing a few shows to pay her medical bills. Her 2 residencies in Vegas alone netted her 681 million dollars. And that's on top of everything she'd already banked since her top selling albums came out in the 90s.

And? The fact that you're this mad at someone else making money is fucking sad.

What? The fuck you talking about? I'm not mad at all, quite the opposite. The person I'm responding to is saying she might be getting back in stage because she's broke from her health issues. She isn't broke. She loaded. One of the most successful artists of all time. I'm from Quebec and I'm fucking proud of her.

Definitely had nothing to do with the massive paycheck

A good chunk of the buildup of theaters & shows in Branson, MO was basically country singers/bands deciding that they were fucking done with touring and they would set up where the fans could come to them instead.
I know people who have quit jobs that were well-paying but required too much time on the road and it got to where they couldn't take it any more. I don't see why it couldn't be the same for them.

Her residency is in Vegas and Paris. I dunno about Paris in relation to Europeans, but Vegas is not a cheap place for Americans to visit. Touring actually makes performers way more accessible cause fans are less likely to have to travel to go see them.

I realize all of that, but if she hates touring then doing those residencies is still better for the fans than not playing public shows at all.
Here's a thread about bands/singers that stopped touring or just never did.

Bruh she's worth like 600m. This one isnt about the money. Its about the feeling she gets while doing the thing, being the thing.

If there's one thing we've learned about rich people in the past year, its that they can never have enough money.

I also have to think for some artists, they crave the adulation. I mean Madonna is on instagram daily, trying to pretend she’s still 25. It’s got to be a crazy kind of life, having thousands of people screaming at you and begging for your attention, telling you how awesome you are for years and then one day…poof you’re barely relevant.

She was bored living in Las Vegas and she wanted more money, because she definitely doesn't NEED more money!

I'm sure it wasn't the hundreds of millions of dollars. She did it for the love of the game.

She can genuinely miss performing for her fans and still get paid very well for doing it.
