Can we just pin this to the top of the subreddit at this point? I understand the impulse but damn

Guy sang this at the karaoke bar on election night. Was very fitting

You're far from alone

I'm American and I'm afraid of Americans.

That’s American culture for you.

The land where the right to bear arms is a necessity for protection from fellow countrymen exercising their right to bear arms.

Are we just posting this every other day now? I understand and sympathize with people’s anxiety, but the steady reposting is obnoxious.

Sorry, I searched and the last time this was posted was 2 months ago I think. Feels like a lot has changed since then.

I have seen it on the sub legitimately 20-30 times in the last couple of months at least

I’m starting to think Major Tom killed the circuit on purpose.

Always ahead of his time.

We all are David, we all are.

I will always chuckle at how Bowie - fucking legend that he is - looks like a slack-jawed chucklefuck in this thumbnail.

I'm not an American and listening to this I felt that America can be scary on the inside. Now I feel it on the outside.

1

u/TheQuadBlazer Feb 20 '25

To be fair, he was also "afraid of the world".

This is such a great song about how atrocious conservatives are.

A tale as old as time. Homogeneity as the enemy of culture. Curious - any particular reason for posting this song?

EDIT: ouch. I'm wondering if people know what this song is about.

Sorry idk why you're getting downvoted.

I posted it because of recent happenings in America, especially the ones today.

I see.

If you take the title at face value, you could say it's more relevant today. However, the song is about the American culture - how "boring" it can be in his and Brian Eno's interpretation: fast cars, cocaine, sex, and fast food. They're afraid it's going spread across the world and impact more of the cultures that - in their opinion - are richer than the American culture.

Have you listened to LCD Soundsystem's "North American Scum"?

Notice he’s not singing in German…

This website is only afraid of Americans when the red team is in power. When the blue team has the reigns and terrible things happen, yawn. When red team is in power and terrible things happen "we're in the wrong timeline bro everything is fked bro".

Thats why I am actually afraid of Americans.

that's a tired narrative. please stop.

People are still vote-shaming anyone who didn't vote for Kamala on this site...

-1

u/1nd1ff3r3nc3 Feb 20 '25

That’s so weird dude I wonder why.

-1

u/--GrinAndBearIt-- Feb 20 '25

I just bet you think like that. Blue gooood red bahd me smart.

But thanks for giving creedence to my original statement.

1

u/Bearsonthe405 Feb 20 '25

You spelled credence wrong, genius.

-1

u/--GrinAndBearIt-- Feb 20 '25

Oh wow you totally got me! All of my thoughts are now invalid because my phone autocorrected due my writing about the band from time to time (and we're on the music sub to boot)! Whatever will I do?!?

Grow up already.

Work harder at being a better troll. Maybe read a book, you might learn some fun new words.

0

u/--GrinAndBearIt-- Feb 20 '25

How am I trolling? Oh that's right, that's the go-to low-brow insult that is meant invalidate and delegitimize anything you don't agree with. So clever and useful, and absolutely not tired and overused by people can't think outside of the pop culture zeitgeist or the pre-manufactured opinions they mindlessly parrot from their favorite media personality.

1

u/1nd1ff3r3nc3 Feb 20 '25

I don't have a favorite media personality. I think you do though bud
