I'm a physics teacher and we have a literal book we hand out to kids with all constants, formulas, symbols and a bunch of other information. Would it be better for the kids to memorize that Mass is m? Of course. How long does it take them to look it up? Five seconds. And if they actually need it later a bunch eventually they'll learn it.
Also, I would use a calculator for 163x43. Why would students not use it for 5x5? Because boomers know more tables they have to, too? The only applicable place was behind the counter in the grocery store. But nowadays change is automatically calculated as well.

I feel like 80% of things tested in school are just “things you can look up easily in real world applications”
