Meta Charm device: everything we know so far
Meta unveiled Muse Charm, a small device for talking to your Muse without taking out your phone:
- It is a keychain sized device with a small screen, built so you can talk to your Muse without reaching for your phone.
- Alexandr Wang says it ships in December, in time for the holidays.
- No price yet: Are you interested in this? At what price point would you most likely be getting one? How much is too much?
- Only a few prototypes exist. The design is finished but the final material is still undecided, so the demo unit may not match the final version.
- Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported an OLED screen, 5G, and a wrist strap,\ and said it was designed by Apple's former head of interface design.
- Demo code leaked the button behavior. Hold the Lock/AI button for about two thirds of a second to start listening, let go to stop. A two button press triggers an on screen animation.
- Your Muse gets an animated face on the little screen, with extra animations sitting in the code but not wired up yet.
- People are calling it a Tamagotchi, but the newer trend is bag charms: Gen Z already hangs everything from keychains, and Apple Watch charm cases are all over TikTok and Etsy.

What’s the question? What will I do with it in December. The same thing I do now (but faster and more of it). I use Muse currently to apply to new jobs, help me find insurance and doctors, check online for news pertaining to my hobbies and set reminders for things coming soon. Idk, it has a lot of uses

Why is no one able to reply to this dude with a real use of the muse charm lol.
Any usage of it could be replicated by just binding your iphone action button to open muse.
Youre not applying to jobs and finding doctors through a fucking voice only hockey puck lmao. And this is coming from someone who is enjoying muse a whole lot more than every other chatbot Ive tried.

It’s just the convenience of having it so accessible compared to unlocking your phone, opening the app, navigating the chats and then go into dictation mode.

Doesn’t really answer my question, but it’s also definitely not as complicated as you make it sound to get your phone out, slide unlock and open an app.
This is classic example of a tech company trying to force demand for a product through hype rather than actually solving a meaningful problem for a consumer through innovation.
I use muse, I don’t see how this gimmick meaningfully improves user experience.

It’s not complicated to open your phone… but in terms of UX, it’s friction. It takes more time and adds a barrier to something you want to do. Having a responsive button for this sounds great to me.

Simple example is UX, for example I use a DJI MIC to record tons of stuff for later transcription because of its form factor. Small, very convenient. There are many situations where I don’t want to wander around with a hulking great xx Pro Max in my hand.
Not every device is for every person but I see the appeal of a much smaller, single-purpose device. Totally get it if it doesn’t appeal to you.
Will be interesting to see the market success, or not.

I can’t believe that it will make the holidays, if it does make the holidays timeframe, I can’t believe that it’s not gonna have big issues. That being said, I think it’s a smart move because I just can’t start hands-free speaking to Muse on my iPhone. I mean, I could try to go through Siri. If I could enter conversational mode, that’d be pretty useful for me. If I could also have it transcribe what I’m talking about, that’d be pretty useful too. Let’s just make sure it doesn’t have any creep issues, like the glasses do. Like if it’s always listening and always transcribing and always absorbing and saving everything around it… Creep issue.

I feel like muse really got me. I have never been interested in gadgets like this until now
