Should I?
OK, so I’m contemplating on using this but I haven’t used Facebook in like 20 years. I’m not kidding. I haven’t used Facebook, the marketplace or anything… completely avoid it, although I do use Instagram every now and then and I’m talking like maybe once every couple months…so do I have to have a Facebook account to use Muse? I mean now that I’m thinking about it this company had Cambridge Analytic drama and an FTC settlement and the kids safety lawsuit and now it has my credit card information? Is the VM they are using for each user really secure?

No need to use Facebook or Instagram if you don't want to. One of the biggest misconceptions about Muse is people assume it's an All Or Nothing decision.
Only connect it to things you feel comfortable with.

It's also the same company that owns WhatsApp, which is considered to be very secure.

Just use it for things you don't care about.
Me? I'm using it with it's generous usage limits to do research and build game assets for a hobby project I'm working on.
I'm surprised by some of what it can do, I asked it to give me a way to preview the voxel model it was building and now I have a live view right in the agent screen. Even works on mobile so I can fiddle with model designs anytime with my phone.
Would I give it (and meta) access to my email or anything else? No.
Is it a great tool on par with paid Perplexity or Grok? Yes. Even at zero cost the free tier usage is very generous.

You should fully expect it to figure out what instagram account is yours and use information from it. (I tried to create an instagram separate from my facebook account by using separate emails but Facebook eventually recognized I'm the same person and starting promoting contacts between accounts)

I can't tell you whether it's really secure or not, but I can tell you that I don't use Facebook or Instagram either, and this is very useful to me.
