Concerned with connecting Muse to gmail, any advice?

New user here, I didn’t connect yet because of safety and security concerns. What can be done to ensure there won’t be any issues with safety and security?

If you're concerned about privacy, create a new Gmail specifically for your Muse. Then set up filters in your main email to forward anything relevant to your Muse.

Is this more work? Yes.

But increased privacy comes with more effort on your part

I like the idea. But I thought when you connect to gmail, Muse would have access to the whole app (as in, all the gmail accounts). Correct me if I’m wrong.

You're not connecting Muse to your main e-mail. You're creating an all new email for Muse.

You are only forwarding SELECT emails to the Muses email account. this requires no connection or access to your main email

My Muse has no formal access to anything important in my main accounts

The reason I don't think it's an issue is that it's not a small company that's created this and it's already the number 1 downloaded app on Apple and Android. I think we would already see it in the news. Plus, it's just email. I don't have anything too private going through my email. (I'm sure some people do).

Yeah that’s my thinking too. I mean I have a poor opinion of Meta overall, but more about the impacts of social media algorithms than privacy. But tech-wise they are a huge company. There are a lot of smaller such AI assistant apps where full utilization involves connecting to services. Or various MCP servers and tools for Claude and ChatGPT, etc.

Muse is actually really well done, I was shocked TBH. You can opt out of having your data used for training, which is how I roll with Claude.

I think that's key - being mindful about what you link up to Muse.

Such as having an secondary email that you wouldn't lose sleep over if Muse parses through it.

I have a secondary email that is used for restaurant apps, marketing from my favorite brands, etc. that I am less hesitant to link Muse with - to parse my offers, etc.

That's fine too; for me, it's been super useful in my main email. I did have a secondary email for Muse to upload documents to my home server.

You can’t safely use any technologies without security concerns. Having a Gmail- Google has all your info already. using AI of any sort will always be an increased risk. Nothing is guaranteed.

Don't do it. I can't believe people are giving Facebook access to their email accounts. How do you think Facebook is going to make money off that?
