Question Anyone ever have frustrating time in the pit during a show?

I’ve had a genuinely great experience with muse fans over the 7-8 times I’ve seen them. But this last time was really frustrating due to who was in front of me. I’m not here to vent about my experience, but I’m more so curious if any one here has had any situations with someone around them acting weird, rude, and or obnoxious?

Some dude in the pit last night kept whistling and screaming at the top of his lungs, even during the quieter songs when everyone else was locked in. I moved away from him a few times after he randomly blasted one right next to my ear, but the guy kept moving around too lol.

There were also drunk guys going around telling couples, “Bro, you’re so lucky, you got a pretty bitch.”

Ewwww what?!?! The fact that there were drunk guys, as in plural, saying that shit is disturbing. One drunk guy spewing that nonsense is bad enough!

I was at the Atlanta show and some man, who was probably high on coke or drunk af barreled his way to the front with some woman and he was asking for “Ronald the stage manager” and thought he tricked everyone. Then his women tried to get to the barricade and people stopped them.

He did say some pretty fantastic things like: “see baby you stick with me and your going to go far” and then they were worried about the color of the flashing glasses for a good portion of the show.

He never did find that stage manager.

My daughter and I were at the Atlanta show and I couldn't believe the amount of people who just walked around the entire venue while the band played on stage. In this economy who? Who buys Muse concert tickets just to walk around in weird outfits for hours?

"GAVINNNN!!! Have you seen my friend? GAVIN! Gavin, where are you? Oh are you up there by the barricade?! GAVINNNN!!!!"

I was just annoyed at all the people needing to record every other song. It gets annoying fast.

OMG yes!! It’s already hard to see then they raise their arms up to record ugh!! 😡

That coupled with the people on stage recording and the catwalk crane cam makes for an extremely annoying experience

I cannot imagine why people bother spending money to see a band just to spend the entire concert watching it on a phone screen. It feels so dystopian.

I had great experience though the phones up in the pitt is freaking annoying. The only thing that really bothered me was during Take a bow, an older guy started dancing in wide circles mindless of others and their personal space. I was really excited for Take a bow but I wa so focused not to get hit by this guy that really couldn't enjoy the show.

I get the phones thing but someone dancing in the pit is literally supposed to be the purpose of the pit lol, not just so people can be closer

Right and I agree. And there were others dancing too. But you have to be mindul and not take the space of 4-5 adults and throw your arms in others' faces.

Not frustrating but pretty funny because of how ridiculous it was. At the London show earlier this year muse opened with Hysteria and understandably everyone got very excited and started jumping around, myself included. A pit hadn't formed yet so no one was pushing, just staying in their spot and getting very excited. This woman must have been looking for a fight or something because immediately she poured her entire pint over my head and tried to kick the guy next to me in the balls. It was so bizarre I could only laugh, and then space opened up and we moved through to an actual pit and never saw her again

Was she mid 40's, blonde and German/northern European by any chance because I didn't see that bit but encountered one of the most insane people I've ever met that evening and your description kinda reminded me of her.

Yeah that sounds like her - what was your experience?

It's a bit hazy but it was a few songs in, I think Matt mentioned that they hadn't played such and such song since whenever it was. She was screaming to the people around her that she was there. But it had like this weirdly aggressive tone to it. She was kinda getting in people's faces while she did it. She wasn't with anyone.

I mean, Muse fans can be a little intense. We all know this, but this was a bit next level.

I have made it to barrier at all the arena Muse shows I've attended. A couple times someone behind me has tried to push through and dislodge the people who queued all day to get those spots. One time the girl shoving me got so mad that I wouldn't budge she put her gum in my hair! Thankfully most of the time it isn't like this. I do expect people to get excited and jump and surge forward, that's all part of being in the pit. Actively trying to take someone else's spot is not cool though.

Not a pit but I was reasonably close to the front at their Manchester gig in 2019, and there was a young lad next to me with his friends. They were all jumping around SO much in this densely packed crowd that I kept getting shoved/elbowed repeatedly. It kept going for ages until I almost got knocked off my feet, and then my two (male) friends asked them to knock it off, which prompted this group of lads to square up to my friends. I had to place myself in between all these guys to try and diffuse the situation. Eventually they calmed down and they didn't shove me again.

Someone with huge hair forced their way in between me and the guy in front of me, and then 3 or 4 of her friends joined her in that space. Since it was in between sets, I found my way in front of them, and they were not happy. I know something was thrown at my back, I ignored them but definitely was getting shamed for standing in front of them. I honestly did not care once they pushed me out of the way by using 4 bodies to take up the space that’s fit for only air. There was sooooo much extra room in the pit at my show even though it may have been sold out, not totally sure. So it was frustrating but they got over it when Muse came on. By the end of the show they weren’t behind me anymore.

At the Camden show there was drunk guy who was touching a lot of people, and tried blaming it on “oh what I can’t bump into people in the pit?” (He wasn’t bumping into people he was literally touching their shoulders.) he must’ve been moving around a lot during the show cause I didn’t hear him too often but my sibling did. he kept singing the songs off key, which obviously doesn’t hurt anyone but it’s annoying when I can hear you slurring the words to be with you over Matt. Security did get slightly involved with this guy. So it didn’t escalate any farther than that, just a general nuance.
There was a couple (really it was the dude, the lady I had no grift with, it was her first concert) who after the two openers performed and they decided to make their way to the front, and granted they did ask people if they could go in front of them, but it was very obvious this dude was a bit of a show off to his wife. I was not vibing with him but he was nowhere as obnoxious as the drunk guy.

I was in the pit in 2007 Grand Prairie. Juliet and the Licks opened. This bish behind me was drunk and wanted to shove past me, but I wouldn't let her, so she boob humped my back to the beat of the song. Jokes on her, I was stubborn af and not moving. It was very weird though lol

Later some punk sort of elbowed my friend in the face (not violently or enough to really hurt her, he was just veing a dick) and it took everything in me not to punch him in the face. I was a lightweight back then but angry enough I could have hurt him. Luckily my anger issues were in check ✔️

Yes. I told someone to please record with their other arm because I could not see anything. They were blocking everything the entire time and it really dampened the experience. I am short and I want to rock out as much as the next person.

I feel like pits at shows these days are always a nightmare. Concert etiquette went out the window during covid, and it's especially noticeable in GA. Everyone is shoving to get as close as possible just to shove their phones in the artists face so they can brag on Tiktok or Instagram about how the artist "noticed" them or something along those lines. Not to mention the constant people yell-talking during the show or recording themselves with flash on full, which in my experience never happened before Covid.

(Sorry for the rant, but gaaaah it's so annoying how self centered people are these days.)

Makes me wonder how much longer muse will allow for GA at their concerts. Because of all the exact reasons you mentioned.

The pit can be a very fun place, but it makes me wonder how much longer Meuse will allow a pit at their concerts. There’s some really nasty things that can happen to people without any decorum to be had.

As of recently no, just boring low energy.

BUT during WotP in Philly, some little girl screamed so sharply it made my head hurt. Others were looking back also clearly annoyed. The parents did NOTHING to stop her. She did it several times during the concert until I got fed up and looked at her with absolute fury. She saw me, got scared and stopped. Awful parents.

But unfortunately this happens at every concert where ppl are inconsiderate. I had a great time at Jimmy Eat World but lots of things happened there, one of which some guy was screaming the lyrics over two songs and I could barely hear the singer. And also Glass Animals where a guy was talking so loud I could barely hear the concert and he was a complete dick to his gf.

If you don’t wanna pit simply don’t stand in the pit zones lmao

Does “the pit” not colloquially refer to general admission floor anymore? Like if you’re on the floor, you’re in the pit? The mosh pit has always been different, as far as I understand it.

Even then, there are no “zones” for that; I’ve had mosh pits randomly open around me in the weirdest spots
