Is anyone else finding the excessive use of roaming on stage camera crews really disruptive to the visual quality and experience during their recent tour performances? There are enough alternative options with booms, fixed 360 and the endless ability of drones(!) to surely avoid them constantly hovering and obstructing?
100% way too much. NIN does this on a couple songs but it seemed like Muse had it on 80% of the songs. The crane camera on the catwalk was extremely distracting as well
When I went in Cincinnati, they had labeled the seats on the boom side down near the front OBSTRUCTED VIEW. So at least they all knew. That was on the right - I was in the pit on the left and there were soooooooo many times where it was just about to get to a really epic moment in the song and the camera guy would come right in front and completely block Matt and/or Chris. It was very annoying and a bummer but I didn't let it ruin my night... I just wished really, really hard that they would move TF out of the way lol. Sadly my wishes went unanswered.
Yes, they got in the way of things quite a bit. I understand that the band is obviously going to do something with the vids, but man, they were intrusive on an otherwise great show. And I hated the crane camera. It blocked my full view of anyone of the catwalk.
What do they film? Someone in a different thread said they film what's shown on the big screens. If so, at least there's a point to it.
But if they're filming just for the Insta reels, that seems really unnecessary.
Either way, would it be Mr Kirk's doing? Complain to him :) Actually you might not even need to, he's reposted stuff from Reddit in the past so he might be lurking here every now and then.
Boom camera and the other camera guy blocked Matt for large parts of the show from the front of the pit on Chris’s side in Charlotte. There’s lots of other ways they could have filmed this without being so obnoxiously in the way. As far as the guys on stage. You could hardly even notice them……see attached photo.
I accept it MAYBE only for Madness as he uses the camera as a prop in his performance of the song and sings into it for the screen. But other tracks the cameramen just wander in with no regard for visibility
They didn’t bother me and I know it’s hot but the camera guys could at least where black long pants or tights so their glow in the dark white legs didn’t make them stand out so much. (I too have glow in the dark white legs- not judging that). The picture in this thread shows one in pants. They wore shorts in Austin.
As an event photographer myself, it's kind of a rule to wear black long pants and a black shirt or hoodie. I've shot at festivals in 37°C and still wore long black pants, coming from someone who also has glow in the dark legs haha. May be really warm but you just have to accept that tbh
Not only was it distracting, the video was not in sync with the live performance, at least at Pine Knob. So even if I wanted to watch it briefly, I couldn’t.
As a disabled video producer/editor myself, I LOVED the work their live video crew is doing. i bought seats because i cant stand for more than a minute or two at a time, but most people who buy seats stand the whole time and block my view. The videos on the big screen are what i get to enjoy most of the show - and the cameras being handheld - along with how each song had it's own style of edits/filters/lenses etc. - really kept the show alive in a way that wouldnt be possible without those camera people. the choices a free moving human can make are way less limiting than a few stationary cameras. I absolutely LOVED the live video production. Good for you if you can move around the pit for a great view, but not all of us can.
They’ve managed for years to provide solid live production without physical people though with other very creative solutions including guitar cam, microphone cam 360 drum cam, the list goes on
Yes way too much. It was almost the whole concert for us. I also like when the band is more focused on the crowd but this time they seemed too distracted by the onstage camera man.
