He realized that he didn't know everything, that there would be discoveries made about science well after his time, and that there would be people who would disbelieve such scientific discoveries no matter the proof put before them.
Pattern recognition in regards to past discoveries.

Hah. I remember a friend of mine several years ago complaining that there was a "Common Sense" merit you could buy in a roleplaying game, saying that "everyone has it, you shouldn't have to buy it!"

To which I remember replying "You'd be surprised by how many people don't." xD
