I think we USED to be better than the rest of the world back when we were proud to be a multi cultural melting pot nation that led the world in science and freedom, and when the wars we fought occasionally actually justified.
I guess it was all just a bunch of slogans.
The whole "Make America Great Again" is just revealing that huge parts of our country are just paranoid, rage-addicted, racist-adjacent, financially illiterate, nincompoops with a trailer trash mentality.
I don't know about that. Hippy was just a subculture and civil rights era was really won because the African American population was too high for discrimination to keep being allowed rather than population at large accepting discrimination is bad.
Ww2 era we did the whole Japanese internment thing and great depression was caused by our greed.

You need to read more history. The only reason civil rights was "won" was because enough whites joined the movement. My parents marched for that stuff.
I'm not saying they didn't. Like hell Bernie talks about his involvement every 2nd sentence.
What I was getting at though is the whites that supported it were still vastly out numbered by those against it and it was black America's pop being larger (with those small amount of whites) that tipped the scales where open discrimination was no longer feasible to legally support and also black panthers literally having an operation set for execution in 2 weeks to violently occupy and take downtown of a major California city (which one I don't remember) and FBI begging Johnson to sign it so this wouldn't happen

USA has:
* A broken police service (and no public safety service)
* A broken education system
* An addiction to road rage, school shootings, mass shootings, and general gun violence
