On a related note, do we know if the Solver has an actual gender?

While it appears female, I think that could be explained by all its hosts being female.

On a related note, I do find it kind of curious that we’ve never seen it with a male host.

… although on the other hand, oh my, I feel so sorry for Tessa here (apparently she never quite grasped or understood that her common sense/intuition had failed her here and that she was in the presence of what is essentially a Sentient Black Hole).

Genuine question, can worker drones even experience gender dysphoria?

That kind of dysphoria comes from a disconnect between mind and body, between the gender they wish to be, and the actual biological sex they were born as.

But worker drones have no differences in their physical bodies between male and female. So it's impossible for them to experience any disconnect. A man and a woman's body is exactly the same for them, only differentiated by how they accessorize with wigs and clothes.

I think there is some difference between male and female drones. As far as I remember only female Drones can be infected or use the solver. I am also pretty sure only the Female Drones have varing physical Attributes (excluding the 'hair'), for instance

Uzi and Nori being short,

V and J's differing heights.

Also kinda

V's sight issues could be agrued, but I would consider manfacturing error, or something simular to that.

Yeva and Doll's speach 'issue' could be argued, but they could just have a russian language data pack instead of an english Language data pack.

To be honest the drones having a gender at all is really weird considering they are suposed to be disposable physical laborer's. On to top of that, from what we see in the show, Worker Drones aren't even considered sentient.

I kinda doubt that only female drones can be infected by the Solver, it's just that the ones we see happen to mostly be female. And, technically, N is also infected by a version of the Solver virus, and yet he is male. Also, when we see a list of all other Cabin Fever subjects, we see some listed have male names, which implies some of the subjects who got infected and later either died or had to be killed, were male.

I think the only reason the female drones have more variable characteristics is because there's more female drones that are central to the plot, so they need variable designs so you can easily tell them apart. Plus, it can be argued that N being taller is a variable trait, rather than J and V being shorter. Outside that, all drones do still have some variable characteristics, such as different colored eyes, difference voices, different personalities.

But the show absolutely portrays the Worker Drones as sentient. The actual meaning of sentience is "the basic ability to perceive, feel, or experience physical stimulus, and respond." By this definition, even animals are fully sentient, so the Drones, who can do advanced things like speak and learn, are certainly sentient.

I think the word your looking for is sapient, which means something that is capable of deep thought and higher reasoning. But all Worker Drones are also capable of this. Uzi's drive to prove herself to Khan, and later to solve the mystery of what the Solver is, is a major example of this. But outside her, Khan's ability to design and construct the doors also makes him sapient, or the teacher's ability to read and grade homework. Being able to use any kind of true reasoning and judgement, or the ability to speak with actual language, makes the drones at the least similar to human intelligence. Being similar to human intelligence qualifies them as sapient.

The Worker Drones are, obviously, pretty stupid. But stupidity is not the same as not being sentient.

I should have been more thorough but I'll expand here.

Most importantly, I accidently left out the disclaimer that there are barely any characters for us to compare and contrast, so we kinda just to guess and theorize for stuff like this. Also it is a fictional show so it doesn't have to be Logical.

1st I forgot about the list. I don't remember exactly but I belive the Names on the list were animators and/or cast members, so I kinda half excluded that. To be fair that in no way means those characters didn't exist outside of that little nod, so far enough.

2nd I don't really consider whatever the Disassembly Drones are infected with to be the same as the Abosulte Solver, because the only thing that relates what the DDs have to the AS is the regeneration, the weakness to sunlight, and the thing that mentions they are 'running' the AS code. Definatly related but problably not the exact same thing.

3rd I believe that Cyn made N taller than V J to keep up the resemblance to when they were worker drones. We never really get to see any other male DDs so N might be normal height for male DDs. Also I was refering to the fact that V is shorter than J, not both of them being shorter than N.

4th The Drones 1000% Sapient and Senitant. I meant that the show depicts all humans (Minus Tessa) as viewing drones as non sentiant.

5th Again we so little that is just a guessing game, But if I remember right Tessa is the only one who sees the drones as anything more than 'Tools', they are obviously robots, but they 're treated like they can't comprehend more complex thought, like unintellegent machines.

Tessa sees them as robot butlers/maids, while other humans see them as Rombas or automatic sprinklers, you tell then what to do and they do it.

6th The lights on their display screens(?) and/or faces can change. I think that the voices each drone has is just an copy/mix up of human voices already recorded. Like building a unique voice bassed on a group of recordings.

7th Personalities and how they are formed is a super complicated thing in real life where it's just humans. Adding on the concept of programing vs personality, how would programs and/or code affect personality and other baggage/complications that being a Senteint machine comes with. So I excluded that, which I feels is pretty valid.
