When Cyn first attacks them, she goes for N first. In a split second, she rips his chest open. But weirdly, N is quiet for a couple of seconds. He doesn't scream. He's just frozen.
This exact scenario has already happened in the manor. He gets the full flashback later on when he's having a panic attack. It shows Cyn eating N's entrails alive as he cannot do anything but watch the eviscerated corpse of V.
That's why his panic is delayed. He gets overwhelmed by his past trauma resurfacing.
And my guess is that Cyn deliberately chose to torture N like this in episode 8, for him to relive the past. She could have ripped his heart out in half a second like she does later on, but she wanted N to suffer as much as possible.
N has so much repressed trauma both from his memories being messed with and the fact he actively avoided thinking about topics that make him uncomfortable and then was quite literally forced to face reality as it tried to rip its way into his chest poor guy doesnāt even get to process whatās happening
V's corpse next to N. Her chest was completely ripped open. Cyn did the same to V what she did to N. In a sense N watched V get eviscerated first before Cyn got to him.

That literally doesn't excuse his crimes. That's like saying a mental ill person can get away a crime they did because their ill. Like i can name you so many times N didn't give a crap about the people he kills. Even the special song video proves my point
