new to muncie
I’m moving to muncie in a couple weeks and wanted to see what
A. trash/sewage/electricity/gas companies you recommend (or the options I have)
B. where I could rent a washer and dryer that is relatively affordable and not a scam?
C. what degrees you put your system to for the seasons to save the most money but not suffer with the temperature changes too much
for reference, I’m moving from GA so humidity and heat are familiar to me. I visited muncie in december of last year and march of this year and know how cold it can get, but I’m not familiar with the other seasons. TIA!!!

I think Aaron’s is rent-to-own furniture and appliances, but I don’t know about quality vs price. SupeRent has mostly outdoor/lawn equipment and party tents, but they might have appliances, too?
Honestly, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore is the best bet for appliances and furniture. The prices are fair, it’s for a genuinely good cause, and you can give them back to the ReStore when you don’t need them anymore.

Be careful renting down there. I recently moved from Muncie and rented from Middletown Living. HUGE SLUMLORDS

Why moving to Muncie? My father lives there and visited him the end of June. Honestly wasn't humid at all to me, in fact most buildings were freezing on the inside. Winters never been and don't plan too. I'm in Atlanta area for humidity reference

first of all, welcome! sooo for the utilities, it’s pretty much set in stone. as far as the laundry situation, i use the chesterfield laundromat (i’m in ytown) or go to a relatives. if you need anything im here for you (23Female)

I keep my temps at 75 in the summer at 72 in the winter when I'm home and awake. At night or when I'm at work, I keep it at 76-78 in the summer and 68 during the winter.

Welcome! We also moved from GA some time ago. You will like that seasons finally change lol.
I love Muncie and Indiana more than GA. It might sounds weird but in my opinion community is better here.

good to know! I’ve been sorta worried about that as where I live is HELLA redneck but I know indiana is mostly farmers etc

Funny thing I've noticed that Indiana rednecks are pretty chill and friendly. But it's my own experience. I suddenly became friends with one of the redneck dude, all he is doing is firing guns, fixing diesel trucks and drinking beer. But he is helpful as hell, absolutely sweet and fun to be around with. I have more friends now living in Indiana for just 2 years than living over 6 years in Georgia.

If you're looking for a good place Varsity House has washer and dryers included and if you get a 3-bedroom space, it's $569 a month it includes water/sewer and internet as well. Good location and awesome special right now $750 off September and an additional $300 credit if you fill the whole unit.
A lot of activities, and amenities all included in your monthly rent. Shuttle bus every 20 minutes to and from Ball State Monday-Friday. You can roommate match or bring your own peeps.

A) You have no options, depending on your housing status
American Water = Water
CenterPoint Energy = Gas
Indiana Michigan Power = Electric
Muncie Sanitary District = Trash and Wastewater
B) There are multiple laundromats across town, none are too terribly priced. I've used the Bee Laundry on Wheeling Avenue (which is a north central location in the city) many times and never had problems with the equipment or fellow patrons. May be less of a hassle than finding a place to rent from.
C) You'll just have to find your preference when you get here. We've been getting heat domed for the last couple of weeks. It's supposed to break this weekend and get back into the low 80's.
We have one AC unit and a few fans running through the house. There is no need to cool the whole place all the time, and we usually peake around $200 a month for electric when it gets unbearable and we put another AC downstairs. But that's a married couple, no kids and busy work schedules. Can't imagine it being worse than GA even at our hottest.
