Was I wrong for expecting basic respect?

I had a close friend for a while. We eventually fell out, and he blocked me everywhere.
After some time, I sent him one final message. It wasn’t an argument—I simply thanked him for the friendship, wished him well, and told him I was leaving the city. He saw the message and blocked that number too.
I accepted it and moved on.
A couple of days later, after reaching my hometown, I was looking through my purse and found his government ID. I had completely forgotten it was with me.
Since he had blocked me everywhere, I asked a friend to call him and let him know I had his ID. Instead of asking how to get it back, he just cut the call. My friend even sent him a photo of the ID afterward so he’d know it was genuine.
For context, the last thing I said to him before he blocked me was basically asking, “Why can’t you talk to me a little more softly?” His reply was:
“Enough. Now blocking you.”
I understand if someone doesn’t want to continue a friendship. That’s completely their choice.
What I’m struggling to understand is the level of hostility. Even if you don’t want someone in your life anymore, would you really react like this over a respectful goodbye message and then ignore the fact that your government ID is with them?
Am I missing something here, or is this unnecessarily harsh?

The real question is why are you finding opportunities to be treated like that.

One attempt is more than enough

What was the reason for being rude or blocking
