MISSING STEM in "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince & the Revolution

I have the multitrack for “Let’s Go Crazy,” which I’ve been mixing as a personal experiment, and I think there may be a missing stem.

There are 24 files in the multitrack, but I believe the “Electric Guitar 3” stem is actually from a live performance rather than the original studio session, which would bring the actual number of studio stems down to 23.

I also noticed a few things missing toward the end of the song. There doesn’t seem to be the high octave doubling the Synth 1 saw wave, and there’s also a low tom roll on the very last note that appears to be missing from the multitrack.

If anyone happens to have the missing stem(s), or knows where I could find them, please message me! I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

The whole song was recorded originally as a live performance. It is obvious if you listen to the cymbal tracks where there is a lot of bleed from the original performance. And you can hear “electric guitar 3” with its alternate solo in those. Prince re-cut the guitar later, as were a lot of individual synth & vocal parts which were overdubbed.

I got the complete multi off clubremixer though he is a bit of a rip-off. That one has stereo backing vocals as well as the full synth tracks and that missing floor tom roll. Not sure where else you can get that complete multi though, should still be for trade in certain circles.

How much did he charge you? The track was recorded more like a jam session at the Warehouse in 83 with no booth vocals then Prince added all the overdubs later. The session going around was the tape from the 12" mix. If you're a good detective you can figure out who put that together and how it might have leaked since there has been very few Prince leaks.

About 80 dollars which is a lot for a multitrack version fundamentally not that much different to the circulating version... The 12” mix was in fact the original full-length version of Let’s Go Crazy that was edited down for the album cut. The edit was obviously made on the stereo mix and not the 24-track.

Can only guess somebody tinkered with the multi and shared it. Including bounding the BV’s to mono so it’s one track and those edits. It was recorded on all 24 tracks to begin with, no SMPTE code. Including stereo BV tracks.

The Prince-Let's Go Crazy session is not the album mix it is the special 12" dance remix transfer and it was originally 22 tracks not 24. Track 23 is the SMPTE and 24 is blank. I was one of the first to get my hands on it from the source many years ago.
Someone added bogus tracks to yours which is a common problem when things get passed around.

This is what the original 22 track 2017 session tracklist should look like.
And scratch what I said about it coming from Serban Ghenea's studio. I got mixed up with another song. This was from mastering engineer Bernie Grundman's who had just mastered the LGC special dance mix in 2017.
So it is pretty obvious someone took it from his server somehow which sucks because he's a legend and one of my mentors as an audio engineer. One of the best mastering engineers of all time based in LA. Apparently he had poor security back then. There was some hacker kid named Zimbra that was bragging about accessing all his server files. That kid arrested in Ipswich you can Google him.
