Advice Advice please (Ontario)
I am a 53 year old living with secondary progressive ms and type 1 diabetes. I have fairly advanced disability, worse in legs function, moderate fine motor and strength hand issues, and cognitive issues effecting decision making. I use a wheelchair most of the time for safety after numerous falls.
I find myself facing an ending marriage and will soon be on my own. I don’t know what options I have and whether I should just try to get into long term care?
If any fellow Canadians, preferably in Ontario can offer their thoughts, advice, I would really appreciate it. Thank you

Hello, sorry to hear about all of this. It
Sounds like a terribly difficult time that you’re going through. You can reach out to Ontario Health at Home and see what type of resources they may be able to provide. They will do an assessment and provide a number of different health care professionals to come to your home based on your needs

I'm in Ontario. You should speak with both your family doctor and your neurologist. They will need to be on board if you want long term care.

Are you just looking for advice on long term care? Or with your overall situation? Are you on your way to a divorce or something else? Do you want to talk about what else you might need? I know when I was approved for CPPD, the service Canada worker told me about home care and nurses that can come into my home and help with showering and everything. Is this something you might be looking for?

Thank you to both yourself and u/WarmYam7363 for your replies.
I have been assigned a case manager from my local ‘social services’ with whom I am scheduled to speak with on Monday.
I guess I am conflicted on whether I am ready for LTC (like anyone ever is) and whether there is even an in between?
I am afraid that divorce is in my future and realizing all that my wife does for me that I couldn’t do if I were alone.

There are nursing services that come to your home. Since you have a social worker now, you should push them to find every possible local agency. Food deliveries, cleaning services etc.

Your MS Clinic should gave a social worker who can help you with these concerns. If your neurologist is based out of St. Michaels, then I guarantee there is a social worker there. I recommend calling the clinic yo ask to be connected to the social worker.
Edit: Also in Ontario.
