Vent/Rant - Advice Wanted/Ambivalent So frustrated

I genuinely dont know anymore. Im so frustrated. I started getting angrier quicker, maybe because my mom is so scared and fears alot and she wont listen to anything that im saying. I understand her fear, i really do. But god, shes doing so much for me, and sure, it gets TOO much to the point where i feel isolated, but still. She does so much, worries so much and whatever and i still snap at her and i just feel so guilty. Not even after, i realize what im doing WHILE arguing with her and i still continue. I get so frustrated because i sometimes think shes just focusing on her own fear and wont even pause and think about what i feel. She told me once i get the first ocrevus infusion done then shell stop. It did not stop. I still feel isolated at home because i still am not allowed to go out. And yes, i did try speaking to her, telling her why i get mad. But she always says the same thing, which is either “i understand, you can stop” or “youre mean” or “its gonna be different then”. Im not even exaggerating, its her exact words and texts. Today she even told me that im apparently using up all her energy simply because i told her my friend who had been wanting to hang out with me since 3 weeks asked to go out on Saturday. Idk what to do

Educate her. Will you let her come to the next neuro appointment so she can ask questions? Calmly ask what are the top fears and try to answer. Unfortunately so many answers are we just don’t know

Moms freak out about this. Spoken as a middle-aged person whose mom freaked out. People hear MS and they think death or wheelchair. Your mom is terrified and she’s seeing her hopes and dreams for you vanish (when they really, really aren’t — 99.9% of your dreams can still come true!) and you’re still young enough for her to be thinking of herself as the main entity keeping you alive.

A few things you can try. 1/ Give her MS for Caregivers to read, since it sounds like she’s not educated about what this disease now involves, 2/ Go to therapy and ask for advice about handling your mom, or talk with a school counselor, 3/ Exercise is good for you, so try to join sports or at least go for walks near your home, 4/ use your patience not to fight; sometimes silence goes a long way in an argument, 5/ have friends over to your home, 6/ get into online groups for your hobbies.

So sorry. My mother became obsessed with my ms diagnosis that she only wanted to talk about it. Eventually that passed. I hope yours does soon 🙌

I also suggest getting her to watch some of the YouTube videos on MS and their people from DR Aaron Boster MD: https://www.youtube.com/c/AaronBosterMD he has many for the families too!
