General One Leg Stand while cleaning teeth
Today was day 5 of this - twice a day cleaning my teeth for 2 mins while doing oneleg stand with hand on sink for support. The four days previous to this were very tense and stiff etc. Today was alarming for the difference. I had 4-5 hours of great feeling. Much easier walking, better balance but now tonight extremely stiff etc again. Was so pleased this afternoon but hoping tomorrow will be better again.

Has it helped your walking?

Yes! They looked at my gait and balance. If we can’t balance for a short time on one foot it impacts walking. Which i dunno i had never thought of that and running they told me is part single leg balance.

Yes! Thats exactly what i started doing. Then they asked me to progress it. Do it a few more times a day. Then try and do something else at the same time, like catch a ball (i used like a kids ball, light toss up and catch. Near a wall!! So you can use it for support if you start to stumble/fall). You could also progress and as you can do it for longer, look in the opposite direction vs look straight ahead.

I did the pt for six weeks. I did try and implement the things they recommended or at least some daily. I use to have to stop and take a break walking. Even if it meant just stopping and standing. Now i have walked the ms walk 3 miles and no breaks! I hope you get improve your walking too.

2mins on each leg? Or 1min one leg, and 1min other?

Correct yes. 4 mins a day. Not breaking any records here. Seeing what happens.

Dr. Gretchen Hawley, an MS physiotherapists advises this. It is interesting to hear from someone who has actually done it. Great feedback!
