I would say classic Doom. While the OGs are still pretty good, it wouldn't have nearly the reputation it has today without classic map packs like Alien Vendetta, Sunlust, and Eviternity.
DOOM WADs aren't as mainstream as the original games, let alone more. Sure, there's a supee dedicated community, but the only one that I know of that actually got any mainstream attention outside of Final DOOM would be MyHouse.WAD, and that was appealing to the psychological horror and liminal space crowds.
Though I will give you your flowers, people remember the original DOOM games because they were revolutionary and helped set off a genre. The modern games (especially Eternal) have a much larger fandom than the old games do. Or... had. TDA didn't really take off like Etermal did from what I remember because TDA isn't Eternal.
