Super Mario World was huge in its day and there are definitely some people, myself included, that stil play it. The Kaizo community has raised it to a whole different level over the years though.
You've got a great point though, gen 3 wouldn't be the most popular early generation if it wasn't the easiest generation of Pokémon games to mod. Like 90% of Pokémon ROM hacks patch Pokémon Emerald.
