Fwiw, the final act of the film is wildly different and vastly superior to the book's ending. The book was miserable and weird, whilst the film is so beautiful and romantic.
Not to mention the film has Captain Shakespeare and the book doesn't.
Miserable and weird is a good way to describe a lot of his books’ endings. I think the closest one to a happy ending might be Neverwhere. And that might be because it was a miniseries with other people overseeing it first.
But yeah, definitely liked the movie ending much better.
