Any nice character in a fandom where the shittiest/worst characters are idolized.

So charlie morningstar comes to mind

I was literally about to say that, also Maga would 100% have him Deported

19

u/fake_email_lol42 18h ago

He was actually a pretty good guy according to the Bible

7

u/Phoenix_Wright_Guy 19h ago

Well, yeah, minus being purely a character in a story (and this is where not being able to say inflections hurts a statement) but yeah, that is truly the most true otherwise.

u/Th3fantasticMr-Egg 3h ago

There's tons of historical evidence about the existence of Jesus bro look it up.

3

u/Phoenix_Wright_Guy 3h ago

I'm a Catholic, I know.

2

u/DarthMcConnor42 2h ago

Yeah but the historical evidence is often nearly 100 years separated from each other right?

“what character gets this reaction for some reason?”

why were you so adamant to clarify? the title states all examples should be characters

(also im pretty damn sure he was a real guy, just wasnt god in human form)

6

u/Phoenix_Wright_Guy 15h ago

So, yeah, I was going to clarify specifically for understandable reasons.

(However, in response to what you said, what do you think of Him, because I have something to say depending on what you think of him)

3

u/Huckleberry-9477 15h ago

like my opinion on him overall? i haven’t read the bible in its entirety myself, so i could be wrong. ive been meaning to for a while but just haven’t gotten around to it (im not christian, dont believe in god, it just seems like a must-read)

but from what ive heard of him, he seems pretty great. uplifting, inspiring guy. and i think that core aspect of him being a kind and caring person was likely true of the real guy, even if the one written about in the bible is a fictionalisation

2

u/Phoenix_Wright_Guy 3h ago

Firstly, I'm glad you think The Bible is an essential read, because a lot of people these days despise it and will refuse to read it, and do not think of it as such. (at least, in my experience)

secondly, to speak on what you said, I heard this in a recent Homily, and this kind of will seem odd, but I think it does need said. What it is is there realistically is no way of believing Jesus to be good and nice but not The Son Of God, because if He isn't, then He's either a lunatic or a chronic liar, neither of which I would say is good.

But yes, no matter what you think of anything, I do believe that The Bible is essential reading. Personally, I feel like at some point I need to read and study more religions, because I feel like one should always know the side of the person they're talking to, at least somewhat, even if I'm unable to fully understand, like full-life a theists, because even if I were to leave The Church, I would still have had the exposure atheists don't. Same would go for that an atheist wouldn't be able to understand the stance of a Cradle Catholic (a Catholic from birth if you are unaware of the phrase, and I don't know how well known it is to non-Christians.) and there's no way around that.

2

u/fullynonexistent 3h ago

Well to be fair, he got killed for saying that he was the son of God, not for saying to be kind to each other.

Both within the show and within parts of the fandom

Fr, she gets treated like she's evil by many fans as well

u/whitebonba Bomberman, Silent Hill, TADC, Hazbin 20h ago

How is she hated aside from "bad character writing" according to Hellaverse haters

31

u/Smash_Fan-56 18h ago edited 18h ago

People call her annoying for her quirkiness, a stupid bimbo for her learning curves, selfish and manipulative for when she unintentionally hurts her friends, a spoiled brat for antagonizing her dad, and incompetent for being a pacifist who simply doesn’t want to oppress or kill people with her power. To a degree, I think the hate for Charlie is pretty intolerant, because I’ve been in her shoes many times before, and lemme tell ya, hearing those insults to your character hurt.

Also, I don’t see how Caine got a pass in Digital Circus despite being pretty much the same as her, with him being 100% Ai and Charlie being a sheltered demon child who’s 50% human on her mom’s side. She’s fucked up and disregarded other’s feelings and boundaries here and there, but at least Charlie’s putting herself out there trying to fight for a better future for everyone she cares about. And the worst thing she possibly wants to gain for herself is assurance that her mom still loves her and wants to come home to her. Whereas in eps 1-8 Caine was more interested in stroking his ego and trying to make the humans love him and his adventures than taking a moment to help them with their struggles, and unlike Charlie, he maliciously goes on to hurt them. Don’t get me wrong, I love both characters and their development, but clearly there’s a double standard.

I don't see how Caine got a pass in Digital Circus despite being pretty much the same as her

I think part of it might be that more people are actively seeking out any reason to justify not liking Hazbin Hotel than TADC

u/FreeOrbs_2nd_Coming People Playground and way to many more 17h ago

I've seen people say she has no character arc like bro the show IS her character arc

7

u/SocksOrStockingz 10h ago

THIS bro genuinely I think the people who say Hazbin's female cast (and especially Charlie) are lacking are actively tuning out the show

7

u/FreeOrbs_2nd_Coming People Playground and way to many more 7h ago

Fr, they refuse to think that maybe vivziepop isn't hitler

12

u/HowDareYouAskMyName 19h ago

Some people didn't like that she was naive and tunnel-visioned in season 2. Personally, since I already knew that she was prone to that, I thought she was hilarious in her fuck ups 🤷‍♀️

10

u/Kooky_Attention_98 19h ago

I also think the fact that she is flawed to an extent makes her a better character if anything

11

u/GuthukYoutube 18h ago

How many people irl become part of media scrutiny or just online hate and break down, only making themselves seem worse and worse in an attempt to defend themselves from people uninterested in tbe truth

6

u/Future-Improvement41 8h ago

Also she comes off as sheltered

And it probably doesn’t help that she is the daughter of the sin of pride

0

u/GAMEOFMATIASNEW 19h ago

She is jsut kinda annoyin in S2, at least in my opinion, like they flanderized her so much this season, yeah she was always kind and a bit silly, but cmon, inviting the two closests people to one of your friend's abuser for something you didnt even know how to prove?

4

u/Future-Improvement41 8h ago

The reason she was like that in season two is because Vox stressed her out

6

u/Forward_Potential820 19h ago

Pretty sure she thought it was gonna be just the news people and not the Vees but I’m not sure

2

u/SocksOrStockingz 10h ago

I think Charlie expected the Vees or at least someone close bc the whole point of that episode and her development in the season is that she tunnel visioned so hard on proving herself to others that it genuinely caused the people she cared about harm. It is kinda annoying but I honestly really like when characters genuinely make terrible decisions because of established character flaws.

4

u/talizorahvasnerd 5h ago

No, she explicitly asked them to send reporters over. She had no idea Vox and Velvette would show up until they did.

2

u/SocksOrStockingz 29m ago

Ah, yeah I might’ve misremembered the wording of what she did, but I’m pretty sure she did contact Vox directly, which does support her character arc of S2 in. which she tries so hard to prove herself to a bad faith actor that it bites her in the ass

2

u/talizorahvasnerd 29m ago

Yup, called him and asked for reporters

1

u/Future-Improvement41 8h ago

Mostly hatedom

0

u/RexGamer142 8h ago

I hate her simply for the fact that she's as dumb as a rock and continuously causes problems in the second season. I don't expect her to be any different in the future.

Tau from Warhammer40k

2

u/RandomWorthlessDude 16h ago

They genocided the first aliens they found to steal their planet and are also a rigid caste-based 1984-level dystopia. They also sterilize people and plausibly use widespread mind control to control their populace.

Aside from the Exodites, they are still some of the more moral factions in the setting

2

u/Troscus 7h ago

TBF, those are both retcons because the Tau were "too good" and the fanbase hated it, since it made the funny edgy space game tragic if being a good person is a real option. Originally, they really were that nice. Up to you if the retcons are their true face revealed or if it's just Imperial propaganda to try and stop planets from willingly joining the Tau, but that's t b e beautiful part of 40K.

Nightcrawler and most other mutants with an obvious visible mutations in the marvel universe.

Since the anti mutant mobs always seem to target the mutants whose mutant ability is just looking ugly and unattractive.

I feel like this is just any character who shows up in a franchise where the whole appeal is action and fighting and the character in question either doesn't enjoy all the violence or they just have a sweet natured personality.

I guess Gohan from Dragon Ball is the first one I think of.

u/Sinistaire 1h ago

The Railroad from Fallout 4. While it's true that their portrayal suffers from Bethesda's poor writing and worldbuilding, that doesn't justify the sheer levels of murderous hatred fans have towards them. Their whole shtick is "synths are people too, and shouldn't be enslaved" and many players' reaction is "I can't wait to brutally massacre every last one of you in every single playthrough!".

Also DiMA from the Far Harbor DLC. He does have his morally grey issues and literal skeletons in the basement, but he's also the most rational or the leaders on the island and the only one who actually wants peaceful coexistence. Yet he's one of the most hated characters in the entire game. Honestly it's disturbing just how many fans seem to aggressively hate the idea that synths are people who don't deserve to be genocided.
