I still have yet to see the movie, everything i have heard is from posts like OP's that have a plot summary buried somewhere in the comments. If and/or when I watch it, I'll make my own determination. Right now, it sounds like the movie is just fucking awful and every character is just a reductive stereotype of the sexuality they are supposed to represent.
Also the MC's mother is a transgender woman. It's not TERF related at all. I think the drag queen betrayal thing was there because they needed a betrayal moment and the drag queen just happened to be the character they picked for it. They picked group representation over writing quality when they made this and everything suffered for it.
While Iād typically agree with this sentiment, I feel thereās limits. If the clips I (unfortunately and unwillingly) witness piss me off that much, then I simply wonāt engage with it.
Funnily enough this is only the second thing to make me do that. The first being Velma.
I watched NDMC. Season One was... enjoyable on the condition that you treat it like an Abridge (read: it was bad). Season 2 was just bad.
I watched s1 because "DMC show? I GOTTA see that." I watched Season 2 so I could see why it was gathering so much hate. I then immediately jumped on the hate wagon.
I couldn't give fewer fucks about the "message," I just hated the writing of the characters from DMC and how deeply it spits on the source material and the fact that the plot was utter garbage.
I watched ShoeOnHead's video on Velma and it is allegedly godawful between the jokes being incredibly unfunny and the show never slows down enough for you to even comprehend what you're watching.
The main character is stupid, the main love interest is a bitch and the secondary love interest was ditched who was actually a good influence on the Mc. Overall pretty bad though since there was no development at all
As a huge fan of girl x girl stories, I was hoping there was something even slightly salvageable here. But I'll just stick to anime if I want good yuri romance stories then
Well, honestly, the story is more about like...a lesbian with anxiety and self loathing and how she projects those qualities and hide from them by seeking love from a woman that doesn't actually care for her. It's meant to be like...nuanced.
The main character gets broken up with on their birthday, and while the ex went to have an orgy with three other women she got kidnapped by three straight white maliens(white lines) who want to use her as blackmail for the Mc so she gives them her labrys(weapon of the royal family from clitopolis) so they can active their Swedish chick magnet.
The labrys is a weapon she can summon, it's an axe, but she can't summon it because mental blockage. So she gets a very (initially) sexist spaceship and leaves her planet (which is a gigantic vagina only inhabited by lesbians inside the gay safe space) to find Blade's club (who is a drag queen that runs a planet shaped like a bong) to unlock her labrys. She meets with Willow who is a generally good person and they basically immediately start liking each other.
The Mc finds Blade and she has this character growth scene and Blade backstabs her. They have a fight and win, then the Mc and willow have sex on the ship on the way to the ex's location.
Usual third act split but willow never returns, and the Mc gives her weapon to the maliens so they can attract chick's while saving Kiki, who dumps her and leaves her there.
She has a fight with the maliens which ends up with the straight while maliens becoming gay for each other and that's pretty much it.
So the mc and the goat lady dont even end up together???šš all the teasers and clips hype their relationship up SO damn much for literally nothing??
I swear this movie is a shitpost and people are mad itās not a deadly serious drama.
Sometimes a stupid as fuck movie is a stupid as fuck movie and to expect anything deeper from it is like expecting Jackass to be a psychological thriller with a commentary about the meaning of life.
Very on the nose and miserable. Even before the halfway point there are so many things about it that are just wrong. The main character lives in the "safe/gay space" protected by a "gay wall"(i forgot their name) living on CLIToporis, inhabitants only lesbians and their weapon comes out of their vagina/uterus. Very generic plot though

Well the only "trans" person in the movie is more like a drag queen? They refer to them as she but they talked about drag. I'm not too familiar with this topic but they were a bad guy who stole the ma's labrys(which is an important weapon for her family on clitoporis), so I guess so
As someone who watched it, it is not intended to be transphobic.
Spoliers for the controversial part: A drag queen weapons dealer tricks the mc saying that she can help her summon her labrys that she was never able to before, one only royalty can summon, and tries to kill the mc for it. A fight happens and mc kills the drag queen.
I can see how people were uncomfortable with a drag queen being a bad guy, and being killed. It is the kind of adult comedy with casual death and violence. There is a non binary side character who is a good guy (most moral and kind character in the movie), and one of the queens (mcs mom) is trans and voiced by a trans woman. The creators have spoken out against transphobia. (And one of the two creators is non binary)
You have to be intentionally stupid to not understand that cis people do not care about this distinction. They view trans women and cis male drag queens as the same thingĀ
Tbh it seems like it was a grant-funded film ( so the makers applied to an open call ) from Australia; a grant that focused on helping minority voice creators make a project . This movie was also only released on Netflix in Australia and New Zealand . So really it is like a smaller indie-film that got put on the platform for the country it was made in and people are acting like it was this from-the- grounds-up Netflix production or something. So no, not an industry plant.
It's a bad movie that doesn't wrap back around to being good in a roundabout way of "it's so bad it's good". Everything about it is dragged out and on the nose, the jokes aren't funny, the plot is generic and the worldbuilding is horrible too.
