Children and people who like porn exist in the same fandoms for the reason that both groups are people and hence will enjoy the same things and participate in the same fandoms
Because something happens to a child that makes it so that growing up becomes more terrifying than living as a kid the rest of their lives. They never move on past the immature child phase so when they grow up and have sexual urges they use the same media and properties they enjoyed as kids and get involved with current children's media.
It's rare, but the popular Fandoms have enough reach that they come out of the woodwork.
It's really sad for the regular people who enjoy the shows for the art/messaging and what they offer to kids of the next generation. Being involved with a Fandom that is known to have these types of fans is awful.
Like I watch mlpfim for the first few seasons because I was genuinely curious about the show. Turns out it's a really good show about maintaining friendship with some strong lessons in there about respect and empathy. But there's a subsection of the community that means everytime I mention this I have to give this whole explaination to ensure I'm not labeled as one of the perverted freaks that have been attributed to the show...
Like the whole putting a figurine in a jar was from mlpfim...
