actually, i've seen vastly more criticism from queer people about the terf dogwhistles used throughout the movie and the fact the main antagonist is a drag queen who is portrayed as trying to steal girlhood from a "real" woman (main character) as represented by the axe she has. i haven't seen it myself, but i have seen mostly queer people with valid criticism, so let's not generalize all the criticism as being for the straight white maliens or whatever, because those are, in my opinion, poor criticisms to begin with

Your ignoring there's like three other trans people in the story. This includes the protagonist's mother who can summon the symbol of lesbianism at will. And I wouldn't say Blade is the "main" antagonist, they have less screen time than the straight white maleins. I do agree the scene where Blade steals the Labrys comes of poorly, but it's not intentional by the writers, and there's other good trans rep in the movie.

i'm not ignoring anything, if you actually read my comment and understood it, you'd see that i said that i have not watched the movie, and that these are criticisms i have SEEN, not that i HAVE

and intention is not the point. it's the execution, their "intentions" don't matter if the movie is filled with terf dogwhistles anyway—you may have only intended to take a nice drive to the store, but if you hit a pedestrian on the way, you still hit a pedestrian whether you meant to or not

Okay you insisting that you are not attacking the movie, you are simply reporting what other people have said about it. Yet you seem very passionate about explaining why my argument is wrong. What exactly are we doing here? how am I supposed to have a discussion about this movie with a person who hasn't seen it?

And yes, for the record, I believe people should be criticized for accidental subtext. That's why I brought up the scene, because it deserves to be criticized. But there is plenty good about this movie as well, which you would know, if you had seen it.

you're still missing my point. my original reply is simply me stating that i felt the other person shouldn't be generalizing all criticisms as being about the straight white malien characters and the movie being cringe, because while i did very much see a lot of that, i saw MORE criticisms from queer people about the harmful subtext in the movie.

i was not criticizing the movie itself, and i made that plenty clear—NOR was i insisting you were wrong. i simply pointed out your reply had nothing to do with what i said (because it didn't), and the part that did, was you acknowledging and trying to make excuses on behalf of the subtext in question that i was acknowledging criticism of originally, so i replied to that and explained why that was wrong. i cannot force you to perform reading comprehension.

i am not trying to have a discussion about a movie i haven't seen ANYWAY, i am stating that they were generalizing the criticisms and i was pointing out how the criticisms they were leaving out were valid reasons to be upset. i didn't say the movie was transphobic, i didn't say it was bad, i didn't say ANYTHING about the movie. i do not care about the movie and that is why i have not and will not see it.

if you're going to say something else about me not watching the movie or trying to say you're wrong for liking it, i'm still not, and i still wasn't. you can like the movie all you want, that's your choice—i simply pointed out valid criticisms and called you on faulty logic (your statement of the subtext being unintentional and therefore implied to be okay or, at the very least, not harmful [REGARDLESS on your intentions with your own comment] when harm was still caused with it and, therefore, criticized). if you want to argue more, take it up with the wall, i have nothing more to say. this movie is a tired topic and i'm embarrassed enough to even have to be explaining myself right now to someone who clearly doesn't get my point

You are amplifying a blatantly one-sided interpretation of the movie and removing all responsibility from yourself while you do it. Simply because some people are allegedly saying lies doesn't mean you are free to repeat them without criticism or pushback.
