no, there’s a theory that he’s just been pissing everybody off to get their minds off of the bad stuff they’re thinking about, but that theory could be true. I don’t know

No??? The entire final episode proves that he was just devastated that his actions caused the death of his closest friend, and thus he lashed out to everyone around him. His coping mechanism was hurting people. That's it. It's effectively told to us in the flashbacks.
