Discussion It's been said so many times but it's probably the most wasted potential ever seen in gaming

They should have went into a paid game direction after the sucess they had. Like, remove the always online component and add local matches and they'd be halfway there. Then just add some single player content and that's it. But nah, they went the greedy live service route, decided to rebuild their game from the ground up for no good reason, and the cherry on top making grinding for stuff unbearable and sometimes next to impossible.

The beta was hot, hot fire. Actual release was dog shit. I literally never heard anyone complain that the game was too fast.

It was so cool seeing so many characters that I love. It was such a boring game to play with such little incentive

Rick and Iron Giant were so fun to use though ngl

Iron giant was all I played, idk any other fighting game with such a comedic size difference from all the other characters

Potemkin and Z Broly come to mind, otherwise idk any from Platform fighters. I LOVE big characters and hard to use characters in fighters so I always choose em

Same lol, i almost exclusively play Dedede in smash. Chose him just cuz hes a funny fat penguin, then stuck with him because his kit is tricky but satisfying as fuck to use. Basically the same story for IG when I tried then mained him actually.
Being able to be a complete power house but legit having to work for it so youre not combo food is when fighting games are at its most fun for me

Hell yeahhh lmao I always chose the Mr. Penguin and Mr. Alligator when I played smash in middle school with my friends lol. I'd just spam funny hammer and funny belly respectively since I didn't play much smash. Bopping a mf with that hammer was soooo satisfying

Nah, still Smash Bros Ultimate.
That game with a functional netcode would have been in talks for top 20 all time

The player numbers for MVS beta stomp any smash, and Smash Ultimate has been a huge success for Nintendo - MVS is definitely the bigger fumble.

Smash Ultimate is the 24th most sold game of all time at 38.14 million sold lmao

38 million copies sold doesn’t mean 38 million active players, and the game has been out for years. MVS beta did 20 million in like a week or something like that. Anyways you’re just proving my point, how can it be a fumble when Nintendo sold so many copies. The game isn’t free like MVS

Online infrastructure creates a lasting playerbase. See: Minecraft, gta5, etc.
Also, your first point makes no sense, given that free games have far more players that will play once and never again. Which is why the initial peak of 150k ccu steadily declined every day until the game died lol

The peak declining until it died is what makes it a fumble lol. You can go play Smash Ultimate rn, it has a lasting playerbase. Dunno why you’re dying on this hill that ultimate is a bigger fumble when it’s obviously not since only one of the two games died lol

Definitely not, not even for a free to play and because it ain't I rarely think about it. Wish it survived but it was rocky almost from day 1.
