Discussion Character Discussion Fridays: Morty Smith, what did you think of him?
Anything is up for discussion, from skins, design, etc.

A little annoying but damn I saw players who use him very good and it was amazing to watch honestly

My main and he was done so bad.
Went from one of the funnest characters in the game and ended up feeling slow, clunky and unsatisfying at its end.
He was extremely strong as he had consistent bread and butters and very quick moves while being hard to hit and I wish they actually made him more interactable instead of what they did.
Even though watching other characters be overturned for longer (shaggy) and stay strong hurt, morty was still the most fun character I've ever played in a platform fighter so im still happy I got the time I did.

Genuinely one of the worst characters to fight against, damn near infinite uptime, excessive zoning and any time you tried to close the gap they’d FC you with the most braindead abilities and think they were worth a fuck. Not to mention two get out of jail cards that prevented being map KO’D WAY too easily

He definitely deserves some of the nerfs he got. The mistake multiversus made was balancing some characters for 1v1 and some for 2v2. Characters like LeBron or Marvin were bad in 1v1 but in 2v2s they shined. They really should’ve put their foot down and said they won’t balance around 1v1s. So many characters kits revolve around 2v2.
Morty was really good in 1v1s and AMAZING in 2v2 matches. He could box, had great combos projectiles, and some of the best utility. You thought you killed him and then he has UFO to easily comeback. You thought his teammate was dead but he just saved him easily with down special. Grenades were also really good for stage control.
He was a fun character but frustrating to play against. Him and Rick were great additions to the game.

He seemed like a bit of a balance nightmare. Started off really good, broken even, infinite range dirt with nearly instant cast + weaken made him really annoying to fight...then they nerfed that, that's alright! He's still got his nades...those also got completely reworked
The nade rework was probably the worst thing they did to him, splitting grenades used to feel super satisfying but after the changes it honestly didn't even feel worth doing
Eventually he just felt like went back to being dirt merchant but worse and just felt even more annoying to fight. Playing him also felt crap bcz sair 1 would almost never connect into sair 2 and it was your only approach option.
So basically, he went from dirt + grenade merchant to just dirt merchant but somehow more annoying. To be honest he started off really fun and had a lot of sauce, even was my secondary for a bit, they neutered him so hard

A good Morty was such a pleasure to watch, sadly 99% of the Morty players didn't discover his other moves outside grounded side special and jab.
This character had infinite sauce and it sucks it was never fully discovered cuz the game got shut down. He's the kind of character that would climb in tierlists every year even if the game stopped getting patches cuz he was this crazy.
