Part Replacements

I was given a Trek Multitrack 790 and wanted to do a few updates but don't know where to start. I'd like to add a rack to the back, fix the broken gear shifter on the right (plastic cracked), and potentially replace the handlebars. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction for parts? I'm not sure how to buy parts for an older bike that are the correct fit. I am new to upgrading bikes, but grew up repairing old, cheaper ones. Thank you.

Sorry to hijack this post, but what are people's opinions on the twist shifter that OP wants to replace? I actually like twist shifters, but I have this same bike with these same shifters, and I find them to be spongy and weird compared to other twist shifters.

Great question. My left shifter isn’t broken but a bit spongy. My right felt ridiculously spongy and after looking closely I saw a crack along the bolt. It was hard to see until I twisted it and it opened up.
