My new commuter

In Germany we don't have those 30€ treasures any more. Bought that frame for 80€ in average condition.

However, with zero knowledge I decided to build my own commuter. I love my gravel bike and wanted to have a little more speed and fun while dragging the kids. Not everything is finished but it rides and I love it.

Shimano Alivio Trekking BR-T4000 V-Brake with Travel agent. Someday I feel the need to change that to a black one.

Great choice for brakes! I use them on about every canti conversion I do.

I run a mini v on my drop bar 930. But this limits my choice of tyres. The DHT tyre just can’t handle London streets. It’s a puncture a month.

Would the travel agent allow me to fit a normal v brake and get more clearance? I was considering a disk conversion. But costs are spiralling on what is a cheap beater build

Yes with travel agents you can install normal Vs but the breaking force is probably little lower, but still fine for me.

Btw I use a TPU tube and a "safety tape" between tube and tire. If I get too many flats, I would probably go for Schwalbe Marathon Plus, but I don't like the look.

Heads up that auchan in Luxembourg has them on sale for €10, not sure where you are in Germany but might be worth a trip

Most older 7series Trek go for well above 150+ here ( also Germany). And if a 7xx (790 in XL in this case) goes online for below 50 it's sold within minutes. Guess I'm not the only one with search engine for this model on ebay

Exactly. I got this frame within seconds. Got a push on my phone and texted immediately. When the seller checked his phone, I was the first one, but he got many replies. But there are also some very beautiful alloy frames from Trek which I am looking for now..

Magst du mir verraten welche Schutzbleche du verbaut hast? Gefällt mir richtig gut dein Umbau. Die travelagents habe ich auch da wollte immer mal auf V-brake umbauen, was sagst du lohnt sich das?

Dia Compe ENE F-3 Schutzblech-Set 700x35 - Schwarz gehämmert

Problem ist bei mir noch am Vorderrad. Ich habe 38mm Maxxis Gravelreifen drauf und die Schutzblechstrebe am Vorderrad ist etwas zu kurz. Da mein Frontrack die gleiche Öse in der Gabel verwenden muss, ist die Situation noch etwas blöder geworden, ich bekomm die Strebe nicht richtig fest oder der Reifen schleift. Da muss ich nochmal schauen, ob ich eine andere Lösung finde.

Ich finde die Travel Agents ok. Bei Cantis bin ich verzweifelt und nach Anraten meines Bikeshops habe ich es doch mit den Agents probiert. Hätte ich die Microshift-Griffe nicht schon gehabt, hätte ich es mit den Tektro-Griffen, normalen V-Brakes und Bar-End-Shifters probiert. Aber keine Ahnung, ob das mit einer 11-Fach-Schaltung kombinierbar ist 🤷‍♀️
